MIKE DOHERTY Sorry, Mac, Coldplay are NOT the second greatest band in the world. IMNSHO. Poll time: does anyone here believe that Coldplay *are* the second greatest band in the world (behind, or not behind, the Bunnymen)? Would you put them in your top ten? I know Mac's genuinely repaying a compliment, but.... I like it that the reviewer chose my favourite repeated line in my tied-for-favourite song, though I think the sweetest syllable on the whole album is in "Kansas" -- "If *whoooo* we are...." for some reason, in that one syllable, that one word, you can hear all of Ian's beautiful voice, undiminished by the years. It probably doesn't hurt that to sing it the way Mac does, you have to pucker up a bit ;-) _Songs To Learn And Sing_ is so aptly titled: I love to sing along with Mac. Singing circles around Cohen and Reed is so apt: neither of them is a good *singer* -- not from a musicality point of view -- but Mac *IS*. I'm already singing my own harmonies to _Slideling_. Much as I love _Candleland_ and its special place in my life (1989 was a good year), I think _Slideling_ is far and away Mac's best solo effort. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 May 2003 10:45:25 +0100 From: "looloo" Subject: RE: seven-seas Re: [villiers-terrace] BRIGHTON I been working my charms ;-):-) & kev is going to come too -- well when i said martyn, & shaz & Bm & Caroline & maybe fint will be there !!!!! :-)))))))) I'm going o get me tix in a sec.... - -----Original Message----- From: owner-seven-seas@smoe.org [mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Shaz Sent: 24 May 2003 14:53 To: villiers-terrace@yahoogroups.com; Stuart Bird; Stevie G; Smurfy_Boy; Seven-Seas; Red; Raj Patel; Peter Tebutt; Martyn White; Manuel Quiroga; Jon Hickmott; Fintan Stephens; Caroline Johns Subject: seven-seas Re: [villiers-terrace] BRIGHTON just got mine (and BM)......... :-)))))) you can come with us loo (and Nano if you're going)... Amy Moseley Rupp wrote: While thinking about this song I was struck with the heretical thought that it could really be a Christian rock song.... there's nothing in it to contradict that, and a lot to support it.... if you exchange the word "tricks" for "miracles" you get an even stronger sense of how it would fit. I don't know if Mac *meant* it that way, but heck, if _The Killing Moon_ was about the Coming of the Messiah.... or Judas betraying Jesus with a kiss.... "Stake Your Claim" is far more straightforward. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== - --------------------------------- It's Samaritans' Week. Unless you're the Bunnymen, then you can be *the* greatest band in the world, even though no one has heard of you! ;-) Red ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 May 2003 07:05:03 -0600 From: "K.
