F. In the 25-plus years that he's been writing songs and expounding upon his lyrical connotations as the frontman for Liverpool's other great band, Echo and the Bunnymen, to his solid solo work on 1989's "Candleland," McCulloch's wry sense of observation has been a welcome addition to an otherwise anemic pop pantheon. "Slideling" is no different. The 11 songs across the 42-minute disc display the confidence and poise garnered from years of honing a craft. Unlike his last solo outing, 1992's "Mysterio," this disc shows a resoundingly confident singer-songwriter who has come to terms with the world and his place in it. From the opening "Love in Veins," which bristles with optimism and hope, to "Baby Hold On," a splendid blending of Motown influences with an undercurrent of Lou Reed (news)'s streetwise attitude, McCulloch has hit a solid stride. The standout track is "She Sings (All My Life)"; boasting shimmering guitars and wistful-yet-composed singing, McCulloch's lyrical imagery couples with tight musical composition to shine the light on his best work to date. _ Matt Moore, AP Writer ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 May 2003 19:15:00 +0100 From: "s.brown1" Subject: seven-seas Acoustic show and signing ,Glasgow Hi I have found out that ian is playing an acoustic set at Borders bookshop, Buchanan street, glasgow at 4pm on Saturday 10th.Advertised in store and on their web page(see below). Are the States shows going to be as short? I am actually halfway considering going to one if I can (ulp) just to fly again before I try to make a longhaul flight (double ulp). - --amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 May 2003 16:56:52 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: seven-seas More bad gig karma.... Appears that Mac'll be in North America for a week and a half, over a weekend in which I have custody. So can't go to any of the gigs here in NA because they are simply too far away to try to get to whilst working and can't go over the weekend. :-( - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 May 2003 15:44:17 -0700 From: Charles Pham Subject: RE: seven-seas Last night's show - setlist according to iv@n on the ianmac messageboard, here's the setlist: Sheffield Leadmill: 7.5.03 Love In Veins The Flickering Wall Seasons Lover Lover Lover Arthur Sliding Nothing Lasts Forever Playgrounds & City Parks Baby Hold On Candleland Kansas The Killing Moon Stake Your Claim Sweet Jane Walk On The Wild Side (excerpt) I'm Waiting For The Man i'm surprised to see that a few tracks missing: history chimes, what are you going to do..., proud to fall, hire wires, she sings (all my life), and honey drip.
