"Oh no not at all" he tells Undercover News. "It is our 25th anniversary this year. I think we have re-established ourselves, more so with the Coldplay connection and Chris Martin talking about us in every interview. That helped. We played a lot of gigs around the world and became a great band again. I think around 2001 / 2002 we reaffirmed for ourselves what we are about and all you can hope after that is that everyone sees that as well. Luckily for us Chris Martin did. It meant we bypassed every journalist to become the firmly established band. Having Chris sing your praises is not a band thing. That's why we got the Q Award. Q liked Coldplay, we got the Q award in November and I can't even get an interview". The pairing of the minds of McCollough and Martin came about in Ian's hometown of Liverpool. "Coldplay were recording in Liverpool" he says. "It was the second half of the "Rush of Blood To The Head" album. Before that he had gotten totally into the boxed set by the Bunnymen. I turned up, glass in one arm, and Chris said "hey man, you are the best band in the world" and I said "tell me something I don't know". (laughs) I didn't really. Actually I said "I think your band is great as well". I actually bought 'Parachutes'. It was kind of good because I didn't feel like I was bluffing. He played me some of the new stuff and it blew me away. Then he asked me for some advice and apparently I helped with some things. Those were the days when I had a glass in one hand and another glass in the other". For Ian, the admiration from Chris is a damn fine thing. "It is great and that's what it is all about. I am looking back to all the cheques coming in" he says. 'Slideling' is released now on Cooking Vinyl ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 09:27:08 -0600 From: "K. I still say gimme an address, and I'll make the cheque out to Mr McCulloch himself! Yeah, this writer was also stingy with the commas and the periods. MCCULLOCH, how hard is that to remember? Ian is a Scottish name, LOCH is a Scottish word. Maybe I should send out a press release with that mnemonic! ;-) Nah, then we'd start reading about the LOUGH NESS monster ;-) My daughter was reading an article on Mary Leakey last night and asked me what a "bipedal hominid" was. They expect fourth-graders (aged 9 and 10) to grok "bipedal hominid"? She also asked me what a bog was, and I gave her the standard (American) definition. Then I laughed and told her that a bog was what you sat on in the loo. (She saw _What A Girl Wants_ and apparently what a girl wants is a very rich Colin Firth as Dad. Hey, I'm not arguing! ;-) Think Parent Trap meets Clueless meets Legally Blonde and goes to London (does EVERY movie set in London HAVE to play "London Calling" these days -- though I am glad the Clash are still getting played! Anyway, she learned "loo" from that movie.) Those of you in the UK might ace this test: www.bbc.co.uk/testthenation Then look at the side bar for 2002 quiz. I absolutely died on that test -- 31% with guessing. Random guessing would have gotten me a 20%. However, I did know the WC questions, a couple of other things, AND that on the show The Office, the sLOUGH branch is incorporating the Swindon branch. Whew. I knew something! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 14:18:01 EDT From: Iangeannapeter@aol.com Subject: seven-seas Anyone looking to get rid of a spare Mac ticket?
