Um, no. I don't mind some of their old stuff, I guess. Some of those progressive bands are a little low on creativity and a little high on "look at how many notes and timing changes I can throw into a song!". (can hear loads of seven-Caesers applauding Rob) (small voice) okay. :-) But you gotta admit technically Geddy Lee is one hell of a bass player! - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 May 2003 13:52:27 -0400 From: Rob Maher Subject: Re: seven-seas remasters > But you gotta admit technically Geddy Lee is one hell of a bass player! True. He is quite a bass player. So is Chris Squire, but oftentimes Yes just drives me nuts, always showing off all the time. Maybe I'm just jealous. I wasn't trying to sound mean about it by the way. Well, I suppose "good" is relative to the standards you use to make that determination. Rush are obviously: A.) Technically proficient B.) Musically "correct"--i.e. they hit the "right" (that is to say, pre-determined) notes C.) A band who know their way around music theory, (scales, contrapuntal jim-jam, etc.) and recording studios The notion that their songs are wretched piles of steaming monkey-vom with ludicrous lyrics, risible vocals, and bombastically complex arrangements is entirely a matter of opinion. I wouldn't go so far as to say that they're a mullet-haired clueless be-drum solo'd pretentious embarrassment to all that makes rock and roll great...oh, wait a minute...actually, yes, yes I would. But that's just me." Same goes for Sting. Rob, you're the essence of politeness compared to what I've gotten from others about being a Rush fan. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 May 2003 14:09:19 -0400 From: Rob Maher Subject: Re: seven-seas remasters Ok, well I don't feel THAT strongly about it. I must say though, I did laugh when I read your email Chris. I'm going to go out on a limb here and admit that I truly DO like old Genesis stuff,(and let me be VERY specific) anything that Peter Gabriel did lead vocals on, NOT Phil Collins. I like any kind of music style if the music itself moves me. So I can't rule out any particular style altogether. I just wanted to clarify, since my previous statements were sort of general.
