It doesn't try to recreate the past; it doesn't try to emulate the sound-of-the-moment; it's singularly Ian's, and it speaks poignantly to where I am in my life today -- what my hopes and fears and memories are, all swathed in the best voice in the world. - --Amy "If who we are Is who we love" ....then no wonder I'm confused! :-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 May 2003 18:11:02 -0400 From: "tony schinella" Subject: Re: seven-seas Slideling I played "Sliding" on my show today and it sounded good to me. Hi all, For those of you who contacted me, I DID NOT take the Bunnymen live stuff from Ebay. Because bootlegs have copyright problems, they do not permit the sale of them on auction. Someone ratted me out to Ebay for this. I am a bit disappointed in this because I wasn't gouging anyone - I was only looking to make the money back I paid for them many years ago. Considering inflation, I was asking for LESS than what I paid for them. As well, the live covers LP doesn't steal money from the Bunnymen since none of the covers are their songs. They didn't lose anything in copywritten material so technically, that LP shouldn't have been pulled. You could make a case for performance rights issues and sure, Lou Reed, Iggy, the Stones, etc. were never paid for their songs being on the LP. But whoever ratted me out didn't have to do this. Thanks a lot, asshole. Having said all this, while I don't know if it was true or not, there were rumors that the covers live bootleg was actually financed by the band and all proceeds eventually went to the band. I doubt they would be upset by me trying to sell them to a fan who might want them. Especially when Will is selling "Soviet" pressings of stuff by the Doors and other bands on Ebay which are almost assuredly pirated copies of these releases, showing that essentially band members are doing the same as I was. Luckily, a buyer has agreed to pay me cost for the albums via private sale so at least one fan will get the records. If I were an asshole, I could press a whole slew of bootleg CDs and sell them to indie stores, along with a whole slew of other bootlegs I have acquired over the years. However, I'm not. My intention was never to make money off the band but make back what I paid for the LPs. Lastly, the 9 12 inch vinyl records are still listed on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2526547764 and the picture disc is still available if anyone wants it.
