Yeah, but apparently a lot of cooks DON'T. Leaving them flabby, and thus giving rise to another meaning of the term: someone plump or flabby. Norfolk dumpling \Norfolk dumpling\ (Eng.) (a) A kind of boiled dumpling made in Norfolk. (b) A native or inhabitant of Norfolk. Does dumpling have the "sweetie pie" connotation over there that it does here? Or does it always mean someone fat? I suppose there is a way to find out! As to recipes, I found several, some which used suet and some which didn't. (We do NOT eat suet here, ick ick ick. That's for the birds, quite literally.) Native = nativity = born. Matt's Stockport born and Norwich bred (mostly). But besides, I've found that a lot of what people love or hate or KNOW is really based upon where their *mum* is from. If she was the cook around the place. What's amazing is that I've lived only two places in my life, 200 miles apart, but this being America and Texas, there's far less difference in food/culture/whatever than a similar move would bring in England. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 09:44:34 +0100 From: matt.harkness@bt.com Subject: RE: seven-seas OT Matts native foodstuff >Steak Pudding and Chips in a tray with gravy please......mmmmmm Maybe it's me Stockport roots, but yep, I'm with you on that one, Raj! Ah yes, but as I've already said, me family are from oop north, so as a kid growing up in Norwich, it was me Mam who did all the cooking (as is no doubt the case in most families - single fathers excepted) and we got what she already knew to cook. I grew up on Lancashire Hotpot and Mushy Peas! ;-) Ah, don't you just love stereotyping! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 10:23:28 +0100 From: "Steve Hodson" Subject: RE: seven-seas Back on Sevenseas and Ian'snew album > side 2 of Ocean Rain is the best side of any record ever Sorry old chap you're wrong its side 2 of The Colourfields 'Virgins and Philistines'. Are footy ground pies still like the used to be? i.e. scalding hot on the outside, with a still-frozen lump of meat and tato in the middle! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 06:32:26 -0400 From: Red Subject: seven-seas Suspect At 11:01 PM 4/24/03 -0500, you wrote: >*suspect* was a gentle word -- I honestly don't GET how anyone >could objectively prefer HUH to OR. And what does reality have to do with liking *any* album??? I'm confused! >In fact, the *coolest* (in my opinion) >people seem to prefer HUH to OR, and I often see it as a bit >of a mini-personality test: are you cool, or are you like me? :-) I don't try to choose my albums to be *cool*. I choose the albums I like by the way that particular album makes me *feel* and I think that's where the reality lies. If an album does something for you....then who's to say that you're suspect of anything?? People have many reasons why an album means to them what it does. I LOVE Ocean Rain..... I just happen to love HUH better, that's all.
