So you watch AMERICAN television? or did we rip you off on that one too? I was thinking about a reality TV show in which people who had paid huge sums of money for a piece of art or furniture were informed of the fact that their treasure was worth fuck all and their pain was revealed to the world.... my working title was Caveat Emptor Comedy, cos I've never seen an Antiques Roadshow where something's turned out to be worthless but someone paid a lot for it. PBS hides bad news like that ;-) (we see said show on a network called PBS). ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Apr 2003 09:55:34 -0600 From: "K. Contractors sold the guns to reservation agents for distribution to the Indians for 'hunting' purposes. This sort of thing has always gone on and always will so long as there is profit in it. Hi, all. I'm back from another quick one over the pond to see the beau - long distance love SUCKS. Can't wait to get over there full time. Great weather this time around though! Anyhow, I spent last night digging through nearly 200 posts - on the moderated list no less - and am so very happy to see that there's life still left in the list. The show is Changing Rooms. I have to admit that I get sucked into those stupid shows really easily - I especially love it when the neighbo(u)rs ruin the room and the people say they're going to spend the night re-painting or something! :) I used to get BBC America in SF but now that I'm temporarily out in the sticks it's not part of the cable package. Which is horrible since I only got about 3/4 of the way through the first series of the Office on vid. while I was over there and am dying to see the rest. Quality stuff. Coupling can be pretty funny too - they were showing that a lot on BBCA. And to bring this all back to the Bunnymen - I picked up my tix to see Mac in SF May 27. Coldplay the next night - is Chris Coldplay going to be sick of his guest appearances by then or no? I'm not afraid to admit (even to this crowd) that I'm still into Coldplay. Leaps and bounds better than any of the other available crap out there. Supposedly we'll have a new Elbow album soonish though - they were in the studio in January. And, finally, anyone have an opinion on the new issue of the NME with the article about Madchester? That was one of my favorite "movements" of all time but is the article as dull as the Q one about Brit Pop? So many questions. I'll shut up now. Yes. "Trading Spaces" is the American rip-off on The Learning Channel. Its a good rip-off though. Not sure if it's the same thing, Anne, but there's an NME mag out on the Madchester scene (I think it's part of the 'Originals' series or whatever it's called) which is basically a cobbling together of all their articles from that time into one publication. Paint-splattered Roses (what else ?) on the cover. It's alright. Certainly a dead easy way for the NME to make some extra dosh. - -- Barry - -- Barry Whiting barry@urquell.freeserve.co.uk ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #138 ********************************
