Here's hoping I can fuck them over and d/l their album pre-release off of Kazaa ;-) (would I do such a thing?) >p.s. Things looking abit tight old mate at least the derby will remain. blah blah blah fucking Portsmouth blah blah blah fucking Ipswich blah blah blah at least we beat fucking Coventry ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2003 11:18:21 -0500 From: "Ed Hakim, Jr." Subject: OT: Re: seven-seas-digest V2 #77 - Coldplay I like both of their albums, but when I saw them a couple of weeks ago, live, I was disappointed. Even though they played a venue renown for good acoustics, their sound was terrible... Much unlike Bunnymen and Electrafixion shows, in the past, that have just about left me part deaf (funny how you can always get up front if you're willing to stand in front of a speaker). The most startling discovery by attending this show, however, was the number of teenage girls, complete with screaming and jumping on stage, that they attract. They've become a boy-band... So, at that, I'll give them credit for at least being a decent quality one. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Mar 2003 11:55:53 -0500 From: "Roger Boge" Subject: Re: seven-seas-digest V2 #77 >am i the only person in the world who thinks coldplay >are shite?! > >without a doubt they would have been on the end of >mac's scathing tongue had they been around in the >early 80's! - -------- That's a fair statement. I also thought it seems a bit like Mac was treating the 'hero/influence status' given by CP with open arms and enjoying playing it up. Regardless, they must've gotten on as friends in the midst of all this, as I couldn't really see Mac verbally supporting someone he doesn't think positively of. Anyway, just an opinion. Coldplay: I remember a few years back it seemed this list went on and on about Coldplay & JJ72 being the 2 next big bands. I never really got around to hearing either at that time. Eventually I heard 'yellow', and thought it was decent. I heard the cd later, & thought it was an ok debut. last august(?) when 'in my place' came out - the list roared with approval. I heard it, but it didn't do much, considering people were calling it 'a timeless classic'. Maybe the hype got in the way of my enjoying the song, which I now do. People just sent a barrage of 'well I like a few of their songs, but they are overrated!' emails. All true, but it seemed a bit bandwagonesque to me [tfc pun aside]. I guess the email about the NME/Radio1 = success in the UK made the most sense. Truth is, there's always a biggest band of the year. [and they probably get a top billing at Glastonbury/Reading/etc] People love the excitement and love to attach emotions to a band/event. You'll have people thinking Coldplay are touring the US and they're the biggest band in the UK at the moment, so that is going to be an exciting show. (& when you have a sold out crowd, the experience is usually enhanced) - Do they deserve all the hype/acclaim they seem to be getting the last 2 years. probably not, but it's harmless, and for a lot music fans, a lot of fun. I'll admit I was a bit surprised by the impressive introduction given to them at the Grammy's a couple weeks back, something to the effect of being one of the most important bands in the world. It seemed shocking, considering I live in a major US city where you'd be hard pressed to find a Coldplay song on the radio here (of course, the state of corporate radio here is insulting) that they would be given such status, and the New York Philharmonic as their backing band also. I was hoping the performance would blow me away, but it was just, ok. Now to be on-topic - if the association, gets some kid to buy 'Crocodiles' or 'Heaven Up Here',etc .... or even Songs To/Ballyhoo - to get a feel for the Bunnymen, that can only be a good thing. Many times I've had compilations of artists before digging deeper, I'm sure others do the same. Speaking of the grammy's - I enjoyed the strummer tribute, although Springsteen & Costello would've been good enough - as both displayed passion in their performance of 'London Calling'. (However it seemed strange that in the commercial break before, it said 'coming up next, springsteen pays tribute to his roots' - 'Born To Run' came out in 1975? and several albums before that even? - anyway, I still enjoyed it. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #78 *******************************
