KP, it's still 1 February in half the country.... You're up early! When something like September 11th happens, or a space shuttle explodes, people need to talk. One of the very first messages I got on the subject (after Zap's) was from the list owner of the Manchester (Lancashire, England) family history list, asking us NOT to discuss the disaster, because that list is very busy and has a very low tolerance for anything absolutely not related to Manchester AND family history. Listers were rebuked for writing about their World War II remembrances, including when the church of All Saints' was bombed, and several poor blokes were nearly beheaded for asking for the recipe for Derbyshire oatcakes, which must be rather popular given the number of "me toos." I did try to tie the disaster and the politics into music -- where ARE the musicians who might speak out on the issues of the day? Are we now just a heaving mass of horny old people with tongues lolling at The Cheeky Girls or Christina Aguilera or whomever? Or reliving the groups of our youth and once again wishing bad things to happen to Thatcher? Where is "Tony On The Guillotine" or "I'm So Bored With Bush Wanting To Bomb Iraq"? When did we give up? ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Feb 2003 07:23:34 -0000 From: "K.P. Ooh, I'd never thought of it that way before -- SS -- seven-seas and The SS stormtroopers.... Sorry if I offended you or anyone else by talking about our national tragedy. Should your country be attacked by terrorists flying jumbo jets, or you lose one single astronaut and billions of dollars of national assets in an explosion, or have nutters open fire on schoolchildren or a crowd of people or whomever, and you want to talk about it with a group of people you 'know', feel free by me. Count yer blessings, mate, we're going through hell here as a country. - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V2 #29 *******************************
