Personally, I think it's good news all around - Burned & Evergreen, technically speaking, have a lot more "punch" than the three albums that have followed, and I'm glad to see Ian returning to the "scene of the crime", recording at the Doghouse with Cenzo Townsend at the mixing desk. Also good to see some familiar faces in the studio line-up: Ceri, Peter Wilkinson & Pete Byrne. I'd made comment in December that the Bunnymen line-up with Ceri on keys & Peter on bass was the most energetic that I'd seen in a long time. And, as Brazil can attest to, Pete Byrne, though a surprise name in the mix to some of us, has got 'chops' on the guitar. He accompanied Mac on last fall's promo tour, playing guitar on the radio & MTV - Brazil appearances. Pete's one of those guitarists who must have a couple extra fingers - he's able to play rhythm and lead parts at the same time... Also, you may have noticed that the album's to be released on Cooking Vinyl. I think this move was the only way that the album was gonna see the light of day, as Jeepster seem to have put all their eggs into the Belle & Sebastian basket. I think we can all expect to see a solid rocking, 'pop' album, from Ian, which will allow for the Bunnymen to continue down the 'cult band' road, venturing further into the realm of Will's experimental weirdness.
