That might just be me though. No. Not just you Baz. I recall when I first pulled my copy of Magazine's 'Real Life' from its sleeve, the aroma was so delightfully pungent this excited schoolboy became convinced the record producers had devised some means of adding hemp-like qualities to the vinyl to stimulate olfaction. Every time I pulled that record out I'd give it a snif first before playing - A fairly innocuous practice I suppose, compared to girls bicycle saddles. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Sep 2002 18:45:53 +0100 From: "looloo" Subject: RE: Re: seven-seas first four album remasters? Long live vinyl I say! Having said that, I'm just going through the process of putting my entire music collection onto .mp3s. By the time I finish I suppose the iPod will be big enough to fit it all. - ----- Original Message ----- From: barry@urquell.freeserve.co.uk Sent: 03 September 2002 13:24 To: seven-seas@smoe.org Subject: Re: Re: seven-seas first four album remasters? Or even better would be to have the LPs re-released so we can replace our worn vinyl with pristine copies of those 4 albums. For all the 24-bit remastering, SACD, DVD-A etc, nothing but nothing matches the sound of how the music should be heard. You can barely hear the maelstrom on the CD version of 'Porcupine'. And record sleeves too instead of piddling little booklets. The photography alone deserves it. And nothing beats the smell of a new record. That might just be me though. - -- Barry. > From: Stephen Still > > Even better would be for the old discs to be remastered as super audio > cds or atl least as DTS discs to stick in a DVD player. > > Stephen > > Amy Moseley Rupp wrote: > > >>I think it'd be interesting to hear the classic material remastered, > >>and see some new packaging with liner notes and such (true, we got a > >>lot of notes with the box set). No harm done, no need for apologies, nuthin like that. But yeah, I pretty much despise The Who. Great players, and some killer songs, but overall, not my thing. Can't stand Daltrey's plastique rawk gawd trip, and Townsend's "insightful" social commentaries about the purpose of rock music bring me damn close to tears--some borne of laughter, some of contempt, but most of sheer boredom. - --Chris A. But there again the world's full of Man U fans who don't own a single ticket to one of their matches or a genuine replica of an away shirt proudly indicating that their favourite player is, indeed, David Beckham. And I have heard that there are even a few Leeds fans here and there who do not have a copy of that sensational video - Leeds United, the Glory Years - so it could be possible that you could be a closet fan without having even one of their waxings - but, I admit, in this case, unlikely. And, indeed (again) there are bands who will never, for no particular reason than I think they are crap, grace the aged turntable collecting dust in the corner of my room, nor the CD player, etc etc - and I have even been known to walk right across the room to turn the radio off should jamiroquai come on.
