Humans love paper and other tangibles; I'm always amazed at how much data we're cramming on our computers while our paper use continues to rise..... I can tell the difference in sound quality between low bit-rate sampled mp3s and traditional 44kHz sampled CD tracks... no sense in remastering for clarity only to lose it upon final output to digital media. I'm hoping that the music and computing communities stay ahead of the media conglomerates and continue to make conversion between formats for private use legal and easy. - --Amy =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Sep 2002 04:15:46 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: seven-seas before and after from an insomniac! The Who my second fave band? I wasn't aware of that, Pete--thanks for the info. Upon investigating my music collection, I realized that I don't actually own even one Who record. How they could be my second fave band without my possession any of their music is something of a conundrum. One that I intend to correct immediately. Or, conversely, not. - --Chris A. Well I'm a bit ambivalent here, but there again I've only got two digital remasters - and they are both of Chris Adams'second fave band - The Who. Quadrophenia is on the 'not so good side, compared to the original vinyl the bass in particular is right in your face, as opposed to rumbling along in the background (plus the booklet in the CD is a little piddly thing as opposed to this HUGE photo book). The other is the 'deluxe' remaster of Live at Leeds which is fantastic. partly because the stuff left off the original is probably better than the stuff that was on it, and maybe because the basic four piece lends itself to the enhancement. Who knows. blah blah. Ta ta pete >Barry wrote:"And nothing beats the smell of a new record. But there again the world's full of Man U fans who don't own a single ticket to one of their matches or a genuine replica of an away shirt proudly indicating that their favourite player is, indeed, David Beckham. And I have heard that there are even a few Leeds fans here and there who do not have a copy of that sensational video - Leeds United, the Glory Years - so it could be possible that you could be a closet fan without having even one of their waxings - but, I admit, in this case, unlikely. And, indeed (again) there are bands who will never, for no particular reason than I think they are crap, grace the aged turntable collecting dust in the corner of my room, nor the CD player, etc etc - and I have even been known to walk right across the room to turn the radio off should jamiroquai come on. Love, peace, nuff respect (who was it used to say that, or some similar experession, on this list?) . Pete >From: "Chris Adams" >The Who my second fave band?
