Send me Muse, please, to examine in person (and make sure they bring all their music kit) ;-) and *I'll* be 16 again!!!! Matthew Bellamy and an acoustic guitar will suffice if there is a hardship... > No further questions, your honour.... After counsel approached the bench, it seems there isn't an American term *I* know of that corresponds to 'flapping' ... dancing, screaming, singing, flailing, air-guitaring-bassing-keying-drumming, high-fiving fellow audience members.... We all did this at the reserve-seated Rush shows, but it's highly unusual at a reserve-seated show. Only the smallest gigs here have general admission where you truly pack yourselves together like sardines and sweat all over each other... and they must sell out, usually, or close, to get that kind of atmosphere... This will probably get me some stick, but I saw Garbage last night at the Electric Ballroom(small venue, holds 600) in London, and they were fantastic! Been a fan for yeras but never seen them live, as I hate stadium gigs but I was lucky enough to get tickets for this small gig. Shirley's voice is so powerful, and it was good to see that she can cut it live. Spent the later stages of the gig watching from the balcony, so that Joy could see(she's only 5'0"), and watching the crowd got me thinking. Despite most of their songs being good rocking numbers, there was no flapping going on(or moshing as it seems to be more generally known nowadays). Plenty of jumping up and down but no real flapping, as you'd get at a good Bunnymen gig. I've always enjoyed a good flap, especially in my younger days, and most of the bands I have been to see live, have had a flapping element in the crowd. Struck by the abscence at last nights gig, made me wonder why some bands get flapping in the audience, and some don't. Anyone got any ideas? Some bands certainly attract(ed!) more flapping than others. I think the roughest gigs I have ever been to, when it seemed the entire audience was at it, were Theatre of Hate/Spear of Destiny and early Sisters of Mercy, and The Smiths were always pretty rough too. There have been some great Bunnymen gigs for flapping too, and The Chameleons but why do people flap at some gigs, and not others? Answers on a postcard, please. Cheers Martyn PS Shirley really stared into the crowd, making every bloke there think she was staring just at them. Bit sad for them all, really, as it was obvious that she only had eyes for me! : ) Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= New Choices! *seven-seas or seven-seas-moderated Questions? mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2002 16:40:20 -0400 From: Red Subject: Re: seven-seas OT Garbage/Flapping! Crowd was mixed, but there was plenty of men down front, very well lubricated, and old enough to know what flapping is, as well as plenty that were young enough to have a go. It may just be that it was something that us who are now late thirtysomethings did, and do again now, whenever we get the chance!
