When you make a wish, especially one that is aimed at a person in particular, it would be like asking that guy for a favour, so your wishes are so translated: Mr McCulloch, if you may, do you mind so very much if you:- a) play Hong Kong b) cover Candle In The Wind c) release remasters of any song done with the drum machine "Echo" d) throw out the drummer (I mean out the window) e) add a dancer like that Happy Monday dude My take is, although you can ask people certain things, since they are those they could easily consider as one of many regular affairs, including throwing someone out a window, it's quite a different thing to say: Mr McCulloch, if you may, do you mind so very much if you:- quit smoking because it means a lot to me. I don't know ... wouldn't it be kind of like saying to a lady friend: do you mind so very much if you stopped dieting because it's so unnatural, and it means a lot to me? (Again on a philosophical level) I would expect an answer like: what's that got to do with you? I'm very aggressive against the possessive nature of fans because in the extreme case John Lennon got shot. And witness the movie "The Fan" with Robert DeNiro. I tend to think that it's real.
