I guess Natalie Imbruglia wasn't pretty enough. Hard to dislike the guy though, I've tried, it doesn't work. Mac and Richard Bulter would make excellent spokesmen for an anti-smoking campaign. Even Snoop Dogg has quit the ganja. A.I. Shaz wrote:maybe he will if he follows Chris Martins lead (no drinking or drugs) like he said but I doubt it somehow. What's this concern about health? The guy's an artist, I believe we have to accept him as he is. Jim Morrison quoted "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom." Some artists are just that and we have to accept that. Sure we are sad they are dead, but why put them on a pedestal? The death of any artist is a sad thing, and Morrison clearly died of excess; so that ends an era. Michaelangelo's dead too. He probably didn't smoke or drink. Do you want him to live forever? I learnt from "Turquoise Days" that Mac once became something of an alcoholic, when he was going solo. It appears he's now out of that phase, so that's that. Not that I wish Mac to drink or smoke, but he is what he is. Who cares what happened to Chris Martins or Snoop Dogg (I happen not to)? The problem I have with artists such as Mac and Strummer is that they are still or were still good. A creative rebirth so to speak, and when they aren't around to enjoy it, it's a shame, especially comsidering Strummer was working on his third album. As for Mac, smoking and what not hasn't done his voice any favours, I mean he sounds more like Leonard cohen than Bod Dylan now, but you can tell he hasn't been taking care of himself. Same goes for Liam gallagher, he doesn't even sound like the Liam of 8 years ago let alone the Mac of 20 yrs! I mean the effects of age are uncontrollable, but it's sad to see someone hasten the process. Bun Ng wrote:I hope this not to be a forum for any anti-smoking or drinking platform. It's not as if Strummer chose to die and stop his 3rd album, or Mac chose to smoke and rough up his voice. You said it right, it's just a process. In a purely philosophical level, Mac is not Mac without the legendary smoking, although the music should not have changed (maybe the vocal, but not the music). And de Freitas didn't choose to shorten his life by spending a lot of time on a fast-moving two-wheeler. I'm sorry if I offended bike-loving individuals including Jay Leno, but if your preference is something that cannot protect you once pass 70 mph in a head-on, you are courting death. What's the big deal? It's a free country and the guy smokes a pack that says "it's damaging to your health". I don't wish him to stop smoking. I only believe he has some sense in his head. Cos, from day one, that's what he sounded like. And why are you so bothered he didn't sound as good as he was eight years ago? All you needed to do is pull out that 8-year old album and everything is back the way it was. And please, don't wish to change the artist. Like him and listen to his music and like/love him as he is. Otherwise, just listen to something else. Is that one of your requisite for listening to or loving an artist: a healthy individual who doesn't damage his health: no smoking, drinking, heavy consumption of sodium, saturated fat, red meat and please exercise at least an hour each day, lots of fruits, water, and sleep, and dental check every six months? No fat bastard please. Lastly, I'm still living the world of Adrian Borland and Ian Curtis. The music for these people have stopped. What can you wish for them? See a shrink and never commit suicide? What can you say about Kurt Cobain? Don't hold a gun in your hand? RGDS bn >Ah the tortured artist, Morrison's dead so these guys should throw >caution to the wind too?
