I *know* it's a huge favourite, but .... She's Lost Control, Transmission, and Failures all yeah -- Transmission is a must. New Dawn Fades, Means To An End, Isolation, Passover, Disorder, Day Of The Lords, No Love Lost, Warsaw, No Love Lost, The Eternal. _Closer_ is a heartbreaking exercise in self-destruction. I could pick *almost* anything off it to show the devastation, pain, and sheer fatigue in Curtis' voice. But I definitely think "Transmission" is more archetypical of Joy Division than "Love Will Tear Us Apart." ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 08:05:15 -0600 (CST) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: Re: seven-seas Joy Division and Smiths vs Bunnymen > She's Lost Control, Transmission, and Failures all yeah -- Transmission > is a must. "Colony" or "Twenty Four Hours." The definitive noose music. ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Dec 2002 07:00:36 -0800 (PST) From: Andrew Ironside Subject: Re: seven-seas Joy Division and Smiths vs Bunnymen To me, the song Decades is their ultimate statement. I've heard it a few times recently again and it is the most harrowing piece of music ever recorded. I consider that their Ocean rain. The last song on their last album that ended an era of unsurpassed greatness. Although I do love New Order and all the comeback EATB albums to death. There are some songs on the Cure's Faith and Pornography that are really close in the eerie department. Drowning man, and the Figurehead are good examples. You can tell Curtis's death had a huge stranglehold on the collective consciousness and well being of the post-punk nation. OMD's second album Organisation has a stunner on it too, the song is Statues, one of the most eerie Euro, melancholic synth dirge I have ever heard since Closer, funny it appears on none of their best of albums, but they said that album was inspired by Ian's death, and to me it's their greatest song. A companion to Decades.
