Didn't like Weller, eh? I actually really loved it from the get-go, but I'd agree that historically it's not his best solo effort. Days of Speed was the best thing he'd done in ages - as far as his guitar and vocal abilities are concerned I think that one proved he's still in top form. But I really like the songwriting on Illumination.... As for Puressence, I will say that it's their poorest effort, IMHO, to date, but even their poorest effort is head and shoulders above just about anything else that came out this year. I just love them so much it's sort of pathetic. Heeheehee. As a whole I think the album is overproduced, but some of the songs - Analgesic Love Song, Comfort When You Smile, and a few others - stand out as some of their best songwriting yet. As an aside, they apparently have been dropped by Island, so don't look for a second pressing - anyone who hasn't bought Planet Helpless should do so soon. Ultra shame because the next single would've been a much better choice than Walking Dead which I thought was pretty weak and one of the planned B-sides I've got in rough demo form and it's a stormer.... Sigh. Cheers, Anne - --- matt.harkness@bt.com wrote: > >Bit too early for this thread, Matt > > Like I said, nothing of any note due out this month > so what the heck! > > >1. Alright, I'm cheating ;-) This has been the strangest year of my life, but I've grown more musically than any other time, including my teens. I've been so busy listening to newly recommended bands from new-found friends -- mostly English bands -- that I haven't had time to keep up with many 2002 releases. However, I added two bands to my 'favourites' list this year. The soundtrack of my life for 2002 has been comprised of Muse Snow Patrol Rush (yeah, I know) and of course Echo and the Bunnymen without whom none of this would have been possible. - --Amy, who could have never imagined a year ago what life would be like today! ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V1 #72 *******************************
