Before I ever really knew anyone on seven-seas the most I'd learnt was from reading Winston Churchill, _Harry Potter_, the NME, and a few other odds and ends. Another Universal Truth: Something Cannot Be British Unless It Is 100% British And Everyone In Britain Agrees Upon It or... One Can Always Become An American, But If One Wasn't Born British, One Cannot Become British eg John Lennon = English - American Linda McCartney = AMERICAN ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Nov 2002 22:43:09 -0000 From: "Martyn White" Subject: RE: seven-seas OT A cautionary tale Amy wrote: "Something Cannot Be British Unless It Is 100% British And Everyone In Britain Agrees Upon It Umm, this isn't rocket science. The members of No Doubt are all American but one of the was born and raised in Britain until going to America aged 11. Makes them pretty much an American band by any standards, I'm afraid. I understand you trying to disown them but it won't wash! But see.... being born and raised to 11 in Britain would make one *British* by American standards even if one's parents were American. However one member does not a band make, though that connection to Britain has been mentioned very frequently. I give you they are an American band, the same way the Monkees were despite having what was his name, Davy... Jones? ;-) - --Amy ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V1 #39 *******************************
