Yup, I've heard that too.... "and they were all diggin' it..." I believe that's in _Turquoise Days_, right, Chris? ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Nov 2002 14:20:33 +0000 From: "Peter Burnand" Subject: seven-seas Re: your mail Andrew Ironside wrote: "Just thought of something, what does Zimbo mean anyway? He was fed up of getting pushed around. _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Nov 2002 08:22:58 -0600 (CST) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: Re: seven-seas Re: your mail > Andrew Ironside wrote: "Just thought of something, what does Zimbo mean > anyway? But that's what I liked about EATB and JD, they didn't sing about sexual politics, Siouxsie and the P.Furs were another matter. Blood, lace and sperm in Melt. Yikes! The sheer scorn of I want to sleep with you and Into you like a train, man, R. Butler doesn't mess around. (I hate the expression "jam"--makes me think of The Grateful Dead and like-minded unwashed beard-growin' spliff-smokin' bad-taste purveyors.) But it's the sound of the word, the mantra coupled with the Burundi drums, that gives it that hypnotic, ghostly, mysterious vibe--"like going to your own funeral" is how I put it once--where words transcend representative "meaning" and the expression of vocal sound becomes an emotive vehicle. Like a scream, or example. Or an incredulous reader hollering "AAARrrrrggghhh!!!" Or an incredulous reader hollering > "AAARrrrrggghhh!!!" So have they found any people who've fainted, face frozen in a scream, clutching _Turquoise Days_? ;-) For the benefit of more recent subscribers, we had a thread last year (or earlier this) about songs to play at a funeral. "All My Colours" was the most oft requested EATB dirge, followed by "Ocean Rain." Some are so serious they've left instructions with loved ones or have a song list they carry in their pocketbook like an organ donor card! Though I will say -- I have long wondered if Echo is one of those rare bands that seem to intrigue and emotionally involve men more than women. I've read the most deep, meaningful, touching odes to Echo songs that were written by men, than I have read about any other band, save perhaps Joy Division. > Followed neatly by a "Chris, you pretentious twat." Would that rhyme with 'that' or 'thought'? LOL - --Amy, just pretentious ;-) and needing to write out my 'it's my funeral so sing you bastards' list ;-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V1 #22 *******************************
