LOL, nothing.... it's just in England they have these artificial holidays called "bank holidays" which are usually on Mondays and give folks a three-day weekend. Bank holidays are usually *everyone*'s holidays. We could certainly use more of them round here! We have a pitiful number of holidays and a small amount of vacation compared to the Western European countries. Stress ensues.... I'm sure if I've gotten the above wrong I'll be showered with peanuts ;-) ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 18:26:49 -0600 From: Amy Moseley Rupp Subject: Re: seven-seas bunnymen compilation On Wednesday, November 6, 2002, at 05:35 pm, Shaz wrote: > if they've heard all the hits on greatest hits stuff and didn't catch on > then - fuck 'em ;-) Agreed, really.... did mention just getting them STLAS or Ballyhoo and being done with it, but duh! shoulda just come right out and said the above! > I say play them The Killing Moon cause I think that if you had to choose > just one Bunnymen tune that just about sums up the > Bunnymen in all their glory, then it has to be The Killing Moon - it is > dark and moody, a bit mysterious, has romantic magical lyrics, the deep > vocal, the eastern sounding guitar, the acoustic guitar, the lips get a > mention, the orchestration, the fragility and vulnerability, it > includes all four original members, and it's a classic and a hit..... I would definitely agree that "The Killing Moon" is a bigger hit, but to me the honour of Bunny glory tune is "Ocean Rain." I still can't believe it doesn't make greatest hits lists, but I think it's cos it's not up-tempo it doesn't get on there. If I could only have *one* Bunny song, it'd be "Ocean Rain." - --Amy "Sailing to sadder shores/ Your port in my heavy storm/ Harbours the blackest thoughts" ====================================== http://www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 7 Nov 2002 00:46:12 -0000 From: "Shaz" Subject: Re: seven-seas bunnymen compilation When I said it was a classic and a hit I didn't mean to suggest that that was one of the most important things *to me*, but by choosing a very popular song you stand more chance of converting an unfamiliar person...... Ocean Rain doesn't get on greatest hits lists cause it wasn't one..... ;-) When trying to convey and encapsulate the Bunnymen to a person who is unfamiliar with their work in one song, I don't think you can find a better example than The Killing Moon, I choose The Killing Moon because I think it has most of the ingredients of The Bunnymen (as far a one tune can have). Having said that, The Killing Moon is not *my* personal favourite. IMO if you were to play Ocean Rain to a person who is unfamiliar with their work then that person would not experience as many of the ingredients and would not get as true a 'picture' ...
