Wasn't quite sure about Porcupine at first because it was so different but I think it's amazing now. Mac's voice on it is just majestic, really giving it the full hit; the remaster defo does it justice, I think. I've only been listening to Porcupine and Ocean Rain so far. They're so damn good. Makes you wonder what would happen if the Bunnymen were fresh and new now, how this stuff would be received. It would be cool to see Uncut do a CD of Bunnymen tunes covered by other artists, considering that they've influenced so many. The remasters have played hell with my long established best LP preferences... I'd sort of had Ocean Rain and Flowers more or less on a par (love the sound on Flowers) but now it's Ocean Rain ahead in a photo finish. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. I'm in love with _Porcupine_ at the moment, and especially the song "Clay." But I think _HUH_ is the most "improved" (sonically, not musically) of the remasters. I'm discovering new stuff, new nuances when I listen; sometimes I won't be paying complete attention and something will jus grab my ear that hadn't before. > They're so damn good. Yeah, I've wondered the same thing, especially about _HUH_. > It would be cool to see Uncut do a CD of Bunnymen tunes covered by > other artists, considering that they've influenced so many. Yeah, _OR_ was lightyears ahead of everything else, but now _HUH_ has pulled nearly even, and _Porcupine_ is moving up fast on the inside ;-) The Grey Album can't be much helped, though...... the songwriting just isn't there, and Mac's vocals just aren't enthusiastic. Speaking of Uncut, did you see their review of the remasters? It was good enough *except* the reviewer had the nerve to say that _OR_ was the start of the decline of the group.... he gave Crocodiles 4 stars, HUH and Porcupine 5, and OR 3!!!!!!! (I believe The Grey Album got two.) ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Dec 2003 17:58:54 -0600 From: Theodore Turner Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas remasters HI Everyone: I'm also just starting to give the remasters a good listen. I'd be interested in hearing more specific responses like Peter's below. I'd love to know the specific areas where people are hearing new things & their reaction /the resulting overall effect(s) of such "new" sounds. I need to listen a bit more before I'm sure about what changes from the originals that I think I'm hearing, but will be sure to share this with you when I get clear on it. Hope you all are having graceful holiday days, - -Ted on 12/27/03 1:39 AM, Peter Burnand at peter_burnand@hotmail.com wrote: > Just starting to give them a proper listening to (now I'm back at work...). > Wasn't quite sure about Porcupine at first because it was so different > but I think it's amazing now. Haven't got as far as Heaven Up Here yet but I agree, loads of new things just grab you. A bit harsh on Ocean Rain, yes. For me, it's the first four and Flowers pretty much of equal grooviness, then Evergreen close behind. _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-moderated-digest V3 #1 ****************************************
