With the possible exception of his glasses, which are rose-colored and rectangular, and the tumbleweed of teased-up chocolate brown hair, Ian McCulloch does not affect a rock-star persona. That's good, because he's not a rock star. Greeting fans Thursday at the Paradise Lounge, the Echo and the Bunnymen singer seemed OK with the idea that his band's best days are far behind it. (To give you an idea just how far, the Bunnymen's biggest-selling LP came out nearly 20 years ago.) But what fans the band does have clearly are committed. Waiting Thursday for McCulloch and the others to appear at a preshow pizza party sponsored by WFNX, ticket holders sought to impress one another with bits of Bunnymen trivia. "What's Will Sergeant's user name on eBay?" someone yelled, referring to the band's guitarist. (That anyone knew the answer -- and a few did -- was, frankly, distressing.) If the band's attracting any new fans these days, McCulloch said it's likely because of "Donnie Darko," the cult film that not only includes the band's best-known song, "The Killing Moon," but also features a giant, terrifying rabbit. "I think the film's [expletive] brilliant," he said. "I mean, there's a [expletive] bunnyman in it!" ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-moderated-digest V2 #265 ******************************************
