However, at Glasto, I was rejoicing to the wonder that was The Flaming Lips at the time The Coral were playing The Other Stage. Same went for the Furrys Vs Radiohead. The fact that I saw The Zutons made up for me missing The Coral.. I think they're much better anyway. Cheers, Stu Peter John Burnand wrote: Did you get to see The Coral, Stu? They're normally ace live I think but not sure how they'd come over in a festival setting. Looking forward to their second lp. There's a track 'Milkwood Blues' (re. 'Under Milkwood') which sounds interesting - --------------------------------- Want to chat instantly with your online friends? Word is that he is now staying fairly sober for the shows and doing a bang up job. Well I am probably going to drive to see them in Austin and definitely here in Dallas. I recommend anyone who is the least bit curious to go check them out. If anyone wants to meet up for these shows let me know. P.S. Fall albums for the new listener: The Unutterable (2000) Light User Syndrome (1996) Frenz Experiment (1987) This Nations Saving Grace (1985) Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall (1984) Seriously, you can't go wrong with any of those albums. Each one is very listenable almost "poppy" compared to some of their more obtuse works. P.P.S. Never forget that Mac was a Fall roadie before the Bunnymen started. He has good taste! F. Smith" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Ian interview - part 1 http://www.popnews.com/popnews/ianmccullochitw/ The above page is in French. Here is Google's absolutely lovely and evocative translation. It is long, so I am sending it in two parts: POPnews May 2003 - interview Ian McCulloch is sat at table in the offices of its French house of disc, it connects interview on interview and tiredness and the hunger are made feel. As schoolboys making the wall we escape the hell from the room from conference to find the happiness of the small restaurant where, between pastes and musical pepper mill, Ian teaches us that it is possible to be 25 years old of career while being fresh like a gardon and that Daffy Duck is a guest of choice to make the choruses on the romantic songs. In this moment I am rather occupied. And that is not calmed in April since I make the concerts with Coldplay and also a duet with Jane Birkin. One will take Baby Hold One again both. It is brilliant, if funny... And who will leave that? Ca will be my second single in England and that will become a single in France too. And then? I want to make a date in Paris after the exit of the album but nothing is done for the moment because our agent is not very on him for a European round. Already with Bunnymen it was complicated. Our fans is not enough numerous. In fact, I believe that I will await the exit of the single with Jane Birkin, will make England, the US ones and Brazil and to return afterwards. Because in Europe one does not need to come to turn one week after the exit of the disc. The public is sufficiently faithful not to depend on the topicality. And that makes it possible to lengthen the life of the album, people will know the songs and this single with Jane will start again the things. The course of the album was a little particular. It was to leave on Jeepster, it was to be produced by Ian Broudie... Yes, Ben in fact, one did not have a bowl. Jeepster broke the mouth, which is really idiot because it was a very good label. But the type which financed them decided to be withdrawn. And thus, I had to wait almost a year. Before that they they awaited me because I was occupied with Bunnymen and then when I was finally ready the label broke the mouth. Then, one gave to Mark six months to see whether it could finance the exit in another way and unfortunately that were not done. Then, I decided to leave it to Cooking Vinyl since I knew the types of the label, that they were ready to make it and that they adored the demonstrations. And I made a song with Ian Broudie, I made Baby Hold One, but that did not go. It was not the fault of Ian but it was too... it was too vain, and Ian knew it and I knew it and I wanted to make... I did not like it as much as the demonstrations. I knew what I wanted in my head. Thus I decided to launch me with Chenso. Thus you did not want a sound too clean? Not, I wanted more space, I did not want that that sounds badly, but.... The trick of Ian was too commercial. Ca would have been an unquestionable hit but that did not resemble to me. Thus you prefer faithful being has your sound rather than to earn money? Yes, it is weak but... yes. Ca would not disturb me to earn money, far from there but... (does Ian look at the menu of the restaurant and hesitates between ravioli with spinaches or of the spaghetti will carbonara) sorry, one begins again? Yes, why did you leave an album solo whereas Bunnymen are in full form? Precisely because Bunnymen are in full form. And then also because I had written songs and that I did not think that Will would be packed to do them. And that that sounds like a trick solo. And then I am a guy and I can do what I want (to smile). Bunnymen passed by step badly of tricks, one splitti during 9 years. Of course Bunnymen are in full form and of course one speaks about us, I want to say Chris de Colplay speaks about us in each interview, which explains why one had Q award. Really? Yes, Chris gave us in the head of people. And thus the guys of Q said "oh Ben, perhaps that one should give them the award?". They wanted to give it to someone else, God alone knows who but good, with the beating of Chris, they decided to give us the award last November. And now one is in March and it seems that Q is the only magazine in England which does not propose an interview to me. And I believe that it is fantastic like attitude (burst of laughter). And then good, Q Award, it is right a trick can, (it takes an ashtray) this trick there that has surely more value and it is certainly more useful. In more it is immonde. I want to say it is cool that that was done, but it is not the fact of having a reward which counts. In fact, Will was super content. Me when I took it I said "it is more than time! And thank you in Chris for the award!" Thus you had Q award thanks to Chris Martin? Yes, but good, one is nevertheless a brilliant group! But it is true that Chris brought back for us in the light, especially in England where during the 90' S people had forgotten us. One had been unobtrusive annals of the rock'n'roll. They are especially the Americans who referred to Bunnymen, of people like Flaming lips, Courtney Love of course and Pavement also, of people like that, in this mobility. In England it is as if one had never existed. And then Chris, the singer of the group of the moment, speaks about us. And it is because we met in Liverpool when they recorded their album, it had never heard the old albums of Bunnymen until I them pass to him there is that one year. But it adored them. It adored my kind of madness. And it is right which one trailed together and who one laughed very extremely. It should be known that in studio one always laughs much and on this album solo that was worse of all. There was to laugh more and at conneries that of music. Ca is smelled a little on the disc, it much merrier and is removed that the precedents. Yes, there is always a little melancholy but environment is more.... In fact, that sounds surer of oneself... I do not know, more clearly.... I do not know why but to carry out that one can recover Q Award one day and that they do not want to even know you the following day lights the things under a new angle. And then also, the fact that Bunnymen are again recognized... I were on scene last weekend for this concert "anti war" with Chris Martin, there, I will make this single with Jane Birkin, all that made that I am not any more afraid. I know that I became (with my depend) a kind of icon, but for the first time, I appreciate this statute. It will be the twenty-fifth anniversary of Bunnymen in November and I think that it is not with the range of the come first. I even think that I improve with time.
