I had never heard of Echo and the Bunnymen before, but I really liked the name, and something just 'got' me...maybe it was the picture....so I bought it. I think now this was Fate. - - Kristin :) ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 20:24:22 -0400 From: Red Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas how you became bunnified I'm never gonna find it...so I may as well spend the time rewriting. Here's the short version... Way back in 1983 I was into Duran Duran...(shut up!!)... and me and a friend were looking for their latest import so I was searching the D section and was too busy blabbing at the same time and I ended up going past the D's and into the E's and landed right smack in the middle of the Echo and the Bunnymen records! When I saw the name....I pulled out the record and showed it to my friend and laughed my ass off at their name!!! :-D :-D :-D Thought it was totally silly and hilarious and wondered what the hell kind of band would have a name like THAT!!!!! Stuck the record back in the bin and we got our Duran records and left. A day or so later I was at home cleaning the house and blasting MTV...it used to be cool way back. The VJ said they'd be playing a bunch of the usual new wave crap that was always being played back then, along with Echo and the Bunnymen. "WHAT????????" I said. "You mean this band actually has a video??? and MTV is playing it??? NO WAY??? hahahhaaa" So I sat glued to my seat and wouldn't move till they played it... coz I was far too curious to see what kind of a band would have a name like THAT! hahahhaa Imagine! ;-) Well.......lucky for me.....they played the live version of 'Do It Clean' from the Royal Albert Hall gig!!!!!! Needless to say I was totally flabbergasted and sat there with my jaw hitting the floor! I had NEVER heard anything like this before. (coz I live in nowhereland and the only music played round here is Top 40 shit.) There was something about that performance that was just really magical and special and really made me get lost in the atmosphere of the whole thing. I was so blown away! I went right back to the mall and got that very exact record that I was just pissing myself laughing at a day or so before...and loved it so much that I went and got Crocodiles and HUH and, well, in about a few weeks time I had bought nearly their entire collection coz I was like a fiend and couldn't get enough!!! (It helped that no one here had a clue who they were and their records were just sitting there waiting for little old me!) :-) That's my bedtime bunny story! :-) Red ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 20:30:25 -0400 From: Red Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas how you became bunnified (P.S.) Is that weird, or what? :-) Yep, I definitely think there's a lot of fate and destiny happening with this magical enigmatic band! :-) Red ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 22:18:34 -0700 (PDT) From: Andrew Ironside Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas cancelled So I open my weekly fee paper and look at the gig listings, what do i see? That's right the Fall's July 4th gig here cancelled. I knew it was too good to be true, you wait forever to see a great band and alas, such a letdown. Boohoo. In the 80's, I wasn't sure where my head was at, knew about the Cure, New Order, the Cult, but not much else besides boring Canadian rock, and other metal and rap embarrasments. To say that I wasted my time with Jesus Jones and INXS instead of Stone Roses, EATB and Psych Furs is hard to live down. I first heard of the Bunnymen from their cover of People are Strange, Lost Boys was a favourite movie at the time, so I thought that they must be cool if they covered the Doors. Still though, my college years were dominated by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, so I was too clueless, never ran into any EATB fans either which didn't help. I saw the glorious Killing moon video in 95, but wasn't a true convert yet. But it wasn't until 97, when I was buying those Rhino editions of New Wave hits of the 80's comps. that I heard the Cutter, and realised I have to get their greatest hits, soon thereafter I got everything by them, not only on CD, but tape and vinyl too. Still searching for that Shine so Hard film though. Too bad I didn't have enough exposure to them in high school, I had the perfect hair for Mac's do.
