Listening to the album again this morning, and it's become more and more apparant to me that the track Sliding is ruined by the la-la-la's, duh-duh-duh's ( or whatever it's meant to be at the end of each starting/second line of the verse ) and yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah type thingys ( err, the Coldplay mutterings ?) littering the track. I dunno, perhaps I'm being over-cranky.. I quite like the harmonies, but feel that less is more regarding the other noodlings on the track...Apart from that, I'm enjoying the album more with each listen.. Stu > " I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe." Yeah, I'm not much on the backing vocals. But as I've said, I think that other than the name recognition factor, I think "Sliding" is one of the weaker tracks on the album, and not one I would have chosen. I too grow to like it more, and it's kinda cool that my little one loves it too. She asks for it all the time, and has now gotten into "my" songs (sorry Mac!) as well as Matt's remix, which is "my favourite. The one I love. Yeah, that one." My eldest wants to be a writer now, and the youngest is into music. In the 25-plus years that he's been writing songs and expounding upon his lyrical connotations as the frontman for Liverpool's other great band, Echo and the Bunnymen, to his solid solo work on 1989's "Candleland," McCulloch's wry sense of observation has been a welcome addition to an otherwise anemic pop pantheon. "Slideling" is no different. The 11 songs across the 42-minute disc display the confidence and poise garnered from years of honing a craft. Unlike his last solo outing, 1992's "Mysterio," this disc shows a resoundingly confident singer-songwriter who has come to terms with the world and his place in it. From the opening "Love in Veins," which bristles with optimism and hope, to "Baby Hold On," a splendid blending of Motown influences with an undercurrent of Lou Reed (news)'s streetwise attitude, McCulloch has hit a solid stride. The standout track is "She Sings (All My Life)"; boasting shimmering guitars and wistful-yet-composed singing, McCulloch's lyrical imagery couples with tight musical composition to shine the light on his best work to date. _ Matt Moore, AP Writer ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 May 2003 19:15:00 +0100 From: "s.brown1" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Acoustic show and signing ,Glasgow Hi I have found out that ian is playing an acoustic set at Borders bookshop, Buchanan street, glasgow at 4pm on Saturday 10th.Advertised in store and on their web page(see below).
