I'd wish Joe Strummer didn't die. Bun, I never ever said I wanted Will to leave. I'm a big fan of his absolute genius and patience with Mac. And how can you wish a group would *stop* making music for their own "fans" as crap as that music might be? And I don't want ANYONE to die, least of all Joe Strummer. Here's the deal: * if wishes were horses, I would be outta Dodge ;-) * what is the difference between wishing a band would a) play your city b) cover a certain song c) release remasters d) throw out a member e) add a member We as fans can wish all we want. Does it mean they gotta do it? NO. My point about Will was that I'd be equally saddened if he were to hasten the demise of his own talent -- it isn't just about a voice, or about Mac. Apply that to *ANY* musician. Apply that to a friend who led a life of youthful excess and now has skin that looks like Silly Putty. Or needs a liver transplant. Oy. Last bite for me for tonight. The rest of it's up to the puppy. ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2002 16:04:40 +0800 From: Bun Ng Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas Choices Well, Amy, my take on wishes are like this. When you make a wish, especially one that is aimed at a person in particular, it would be like asking that guy for a favour, so your wishes are so translated: Mr McCulloch, if you may, do you mind so very much if you:- a) play Hong Kong b) cover Candle In The Wind c) release remasters of any song done with the drum machine "Echo" d) throw out the drummer (I mean out the window) e) add a dancer like that Happy Monday dude My take is, although you can ask people certain things, since they are those they could easily consider as one of many regular affairs, including throwing someone out a window, it's quite a different thing to say: Mr McCulloch, if you may, do you mind so very much if you:- quit smoking because it means a lot to me. I don't know ... wouldn't it be kind of like saying to a lady friend: do you mind so very much if you stopped dieting because it's so unnatural, and it means a lot to me? (Again on a philosophical level) I would expect an answer like: what's that got to do with you? I'm very aggressive against the possessive nature of fans because in the extreme case John Lennon got shot. And witness the movie "The Fan" with Robert DeNiro. I tend to think that it's real. And witness the movie "The > Fan" with Robert DeNiro. I tend to think that it's real. Er, I'm in no way possessive of *anyone* in the way Lennon's killer was. If you knew me you'd laugh at that idea. And have you considered the case of asking someone to do something positive for themselves *because you genuinely care about them*? I'm guilty as charged of that offence, but again, when my advice isn't taken, I don't force it. Mac? I don't know him well enough to ask him *personally* to quit shortening his life. I only know his gift, and I wish for his sake and for mine as a fan that he'd not prematurely lose it. I don't know him - -- I can't *ask* him -- but I can say that if I had his ear as an agent, a bandmate, a friend, whatever, that's what I would say. - --Amy ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2002 07:15:20 -0500 From: "Stephen Vilnius" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas-digest V1 #103 > > >>You people are getting really possessive. > >I, too, may choose at some point in the future not to listen to any >more new Bunnymen stuff because the music is not appealing to me, or >the vocal GONE. I also still swear that Mac is still beyond cool onstage, ciggie or not.
