I too cannot compare the closeness to that of a family member. I'm certainly sad, considering I have been missing opportunities to see Strummer and co. since the early '80s. But I think back to that saddest moment, most shocking moment when the world lost Pete de Freitas. And then every time I saw the video of "China Doll". Sad I must be, but making a musician the centre or quasi-centre of the universe still has a tone of exaggeration. What i said was nothing personal, I just have trouble getting my head round someone getting overly upset over a singer dying, for example my wife told me her dad cried the day Elvis died, that just seems like odd behaviour to me. Perhaps i'm just cold hearted Steve > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-seven-seas@smoe.org [mailto:owner-seven-seas@smoe.org]On > Behalf Of Andrew Ironside > Sent: 23 December 2002 15:31 > To: seven-seas@smoe.org > Subject: RE: Re: seven-seas Joe Strummer Dead > > > Maybe you don't understand much about Strummer and the > Clash, as far as punk and rock music goes, they rank > very high on the royalty list.
