Yup.... saw a couple of responses. My immediate one, which I didn't know whether or not to post was 'Good on Les, he doesn't want to work for an arsehole, but don't let that keep him out of music altogether.' Looking forward to the collaboration though hell, don't hire Noel Burke, just nab Chris Martin et voila! Now send on the rotten vegetables! - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Oct 2002 15:57:06 -0700 From: "Ivan" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas on/off topic: Glide I don't know why so many people seem to think Ian's such an asshole. But then, I don't fully understand why so many people think I'm one, either. It reminds me of a few years back, when Duran Duran (who I love; please, no spears!) made the miscalculation of trying to cover "Ball of Confusion" after Love & Rockets had basically recorded the definative version (well, in the alterna/modern/rock world; must not dis the Temptations!) "Across the Universe" may have been a better choice, for example. Actually, that would be a GREAT idea. "Ask Me Why" would have been cool too. That interview by Peter Allen made it sound as if he'd probably never play again. A little at a time, but...perhaps more playing/recording with another act when they decide to record their next LP? Now, Ivan, I've never called you that name! ;-) From talking to Will briefly in person, from reading a zillion interviews, from watching the interactions.... that's my impression. From _Liverpool: Wondrous Place_: "There were tensions with McCulloch, too [previous paragraph about Pete's disappearance to America], as Will told me later: 'It became horrible, a real us-and-him situation, fuelled by him being out of his head all the time. He's two completely different people. Sometimes he's totally brilliantt, another day you just know he's going to be a turd.' - ---- 'It would always start with these little divisions,' remembers Les. 'He was always getting drunk and talking about how we were going to make the greatest thing ever -- and the next day he just had a hangover.' After talking about the footie anthem, and the Bunnymen reunion: 'Though Les would bale out soon, *and Will would still despair of Mac,* the Bunnymen march on.' Maybe primadonna would be a better word, because the book contains references to the long-suffering band enduring Mac's permanent tardiness and occasional propensity for no-show. I will plead guilty to tardiness but not cos I'm fixing my hair! FWIW, if I had to go on my five minutes alone with the man, I'd say shyly uncomfortable and dazed and in his own world. - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V1 #151 ********************************
