I had the pleasure of chatting with Brian from SF last night whilst serving "Jealous Guy." WinMX is a sort of cross between CB radio, air traffic control, and drug dealing... everyone's looking for a fix, they can all talk to you, and as a good administrator it pays to check your uploads and reorder them to suck maximum bandwidth and perhaps let people who want a 6 MB file 'cut' in front of someone who wants a 60 MB file. I did want to mention in my own downloading that I have and have heard a cover of "Comfortably Numb" by Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and Smashmouth -- this may be *ancient*, but it is *very* well done, and I'd love to know who's singing / playing what since there are three bands involved. The D/L that I have stops suddenly in the middle of the fade-out endless guitar solo at about the six minute mark. But it's beautifully done, especially the harmony during the David Gilmour "There is no pain..." parts. I'd guess Thom Yorke is doing the high voice of the harmony, which is exquisitely in tune. This is a song I'm fairly possessive of, since it's one of my desert island songs, one of those I can listen to on endless loop, especially if drinking ;-) - --Amy, too much music to listen to and sort through, but I already know several things I'll have to buy! ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2002 11:53:11 -0400 From: "Nate Vanden Brook" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas WinMX of "Jealous Guy" and covers.... > I did want to mention in my own downloading that I have and have heard > a cover of "Comfortably Numb" by Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and > Smashmouth -- I do not know if you like them but There is a Sisters of Mercy Version of that song that is amazing.... n8 ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2002 10:47:42 -0700 From: "Ivan" Subject: seven-seas-moderated NEWS: 11 October 2002 - - Mac Solo Tour Postponed - - New Glide album nears completion - - Win An Autographed Copy Of Turquoise Days - - - - - - - - - - - The "Evening With Ian McCulloch" U.S. Mini-tour has been postponed. At the time the tour was initially planned, Ian hadn't yet recorded his upcoming solo album, and was looking to 'get out there'. Now that his album's set for an early-2003 release, it's only logical that we postpone any tour dates until the album's release. We'll of course keep you posted when we have any new tour news. On a related note, we have received a lot of individual e-mails asking for more information on both the album and tour. We'd like to remind you that any news will be posted to the newsletters and news pages of both Bunnymen.com and IanMcCulloch.com - that's pretty much what we're here for - to promote our artists and their projects... In the future, we may not be able to respond to individual enquiries of this sort. - ----- Will's putting the finishing touches on his upcoming Glide album. From the FuzzMan hisself, "Hi Ivan, here is the news. I am finishing my latest 'Glide' album in my subterranean bunker studio, 'The Pod'. I have recorded about 70 seventy tracks/ideas I have picked out what I think are the best or most complete 12, All of the work was done using Logic Audio on 'Mac.' I have now drafted in the ingenious recording Engineer 'Dave Buchanan' (uncanny resemblance to Moby) who has worked on various Bunnymen and Electrafixtion projects, and we are now in the process of transferring all the sounds from my trusty 'Mac.' to Dave's trusty 'Mac.' as audio, to mix the finished work on Pro Tools. It have been working extremely well and the tunes sound great. Chris Adams heard a bit over the phone and said it sounded a like 'Glam rock'... I certainly have some new added ingredients in my 'Glide Psyche Soup' I think a lot of people will find it very tasty.... As for what label ect. we have no label yet, as soon as it's mixed Pete and Peasy are going to be on the case scouting for labels / licensing deals. This is a slightly different approach, as you usually have a label at the beginning of the project.... There has been no falling out with Ochre records and 'Weird as Fish' will be out soon on Ochre. - ----- Pete & Peasy have three autographed copies of Chris Adams' bunny-biography, "Turquoise Days: The Weird World Of Echo And The Bunnymen" to give away. The book, published by Soft Skull Press, is an exhaustive history of the band, told through quotes and anecdotes of the people who were there.
