First, the blues pioneers did not get paid properly for their songs until very recently and... Second, Allen Klein, who ran ABKCO records, was one of the shrewdest music lawyers ever to exist. The Beatles minus Paul retained him when they were breaking up, he also owns the rights to a TON of stuff that was impossible to get on CD for years (i.e. Chess Records, the entire output of Fats Domino, Bobby Rydell, et al.). John Belushi did a great parody of him in 'The Rutles: All You Need is Cash' (as Ron Decline). Absolutely! There's a class at the University of Texas called 'The History of Rock and Roll' and every year there are a few punters who think it'll be dead easy AND it counts towards your degree.... Nope. It's got a lot of writing in it, and I'll drag out my course outline if anyone so careth, but you go back to the blues roots and spend a considerable amount of time there before you even hit Elvis (the first, but not the last white guy to make it big doing the African-American music of the times). Way better than Vanilla Ice, but ;-) - --Amy, who did her term paper on (get this) comparing Duran Duran and Rush. Yup. Didn't hear Echo til the next semester. That is one hell of a funny impassioned 18-year-old's attempt at rock criticism! ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-digest V1 #138 ********************************
