Played Blitzkrieg Bop as first encore, which was excellent. He confessed that playing covers is a failing he has, and has to really fight against himself not to play only covers. Interesting to find that the majority of his band was English. The drummer is from Philly, and the bass player is from SA (I was quite taken with her, actually! ; - ) She has a great easy style of playing. Really makes it look effortless,) but the percussionist is from East London, the DJ from West London, the three strings were from Central London, and the excellent backing(and sometimes lead) singer is from Manchester. I've got to say that I find some of his stuff a bit monotonous. He finds a really great lyric, and then just repeats it, instead of developing it, which is not to my taste, but overall, considering I'm not really a fan(or wasn't) I really enjoyed the evening. My memory is going, though! I know I've seen the Bunnies play the Astoria but not sure when. Was it the free midday gig which was televised for Japanese pay per view? Cheers Martyn Don't buy expensive 'ribbed' condoms, just buy an ordinary one and slip a handful of frozen peas inside it before you put it on. ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002 09:18:13 +0100 From: matt.harkness@bt.com Subject: seven-seas-moderated Bunns on the TV Been meaning to say for a few days now.....did anyone watch the (repeated) documentary on the use of the Sea Harrier in the Falklands Conflict the other night? I couldn't work out whether there was a lyrical relevance, or whether it was just that the producer was a Bunns fan, but towards the end the soundtrack featured Silver...... ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002 09:24:19 +0100 From: matt.harkness@bt.com Subject: seven-seas-moderated OT Plagiarism In a futile attempt to hang on to my fast-fading youth, I still watch Top of the Pops on a Friday evening.... This last week featured US Rockers Puddle Of Mudd performing a song called She Hates Me. Now, given how long, drawn-out and downright ugly it's all been, I have no idea who currently holds the copyright to Nirvana's tunes, but surely Ms Love or Messrs Grohl & Novoselic or whoever the hell it is should be suing the ass off of these boys.....what a blatant rip-off..... ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Oct 2002 09:33:28 +0100 From: matt.harkness@bt.com Subject: seven-seas-moderated OT Richard Ashcroft I know Raj has already posted singing the praises of the man and his forthcoming album, but I just wanted to add my own to it.... Having "acquired" the album, I have to say it is excellent. I'm not the best music reviewer there is, but I just wanted to say that if you're a fan of Urban Hymns-era Verve you will not be disappointed with this album. Songs such as Paradise and Lord I've Been Trying stand up alongside the best stuff he/they have done, and Buy It In Bottles is simply superb. Also, maybe it's just me, but the final song, Nature Is The Law, bears a striking resemblance to Fools Like Us.... ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 02 Oct 2002 19:28:36 +0000 From: "Peter Tebbutt" Subject: seven-seas-moderated RE: seven-seas OT Moby Martyn, >'Twas very good, Shaz, ta. Also, isn't it true that the marketing plan for the 'Play' album consisted of licencing every track for commercials? So you may have heard alsorts on the telly. I think he has a good ear for a tune and alot is either blues based (samples and lifts from old blues songs - one album in particular I have also heard). Plus the muso in me tells you that almost every song on the play album has a more or less standard chord progression, making it sound very familiar. Haven't heard it for a while as the missus got custody of that album (as well as three supergrass, a who and a thin lizzy album she's never listened to, but there you go). Also, not that I have a thing about moby, but he seems to come across as a knobhead in the sleeve notes e.g., 'why I'm a vegan - but its ok if youre not' type of thing, yawn.
