Thanks for the update on Trash Can Sinatras (TCS) that you posted on this list a couple of days ago. I actually already had received the message, so therefore knew the content. But I'm glad you posted as I hope people will check them out (if they don't already know about them). I have to admit, I've always been a big EATB fan since the early 80s, right up until present...however, my favorite band most definitely is TCS. I've come to realize that they're really unique in that I can NEVER tire of listening to their stuff....after a dozen years. Most of their material doesn't hit people over the head right away, but after a few repeated listenings, the TCS magic zaps most people willing to give it a chance. While I'm happy that bands like Belle & Sebastian, Coldplay, etc. are finding commerical success, it's quite ironic that the best of the lot are still struggling to make ends meet (and presently they don't even have a record contract!). It didn't help that they were on London Go! Discs which never really properly promoted them.......and which went belly up a few years back just when their last disc 'A Happy Pocket' was released (probably the real reason why that disc wasn't even released in the USA, the largest bastion of TCS fans in the world other than Japan. In any case, bands come and bands go. All I know is that the Trash Can Sinatras have now been around a good dozen years and absolutely everything they've ever released has been quality material. I have absolutely no doubts that their new material will be stellar, as well. Here's a real opportunity for some label with foresight to sign 'em on and promote the hell out of 'em. Because it's a rare bird that experiences their music without at least liking it......and probably even loving it. By the way, is Ian's next solo effort recorded yet? If so, why do we have to wait 'til 2003 to have it released? Fuckin' industry is glacial nowadays. I, for one, feel it's part of the reason many people lack enthusiasm and excitement for bands and music in general (especially as they get into their 30s) and end up drifting away from music. I think we can all say we've seen this happen to acquaintences first-hand. I think there's become an industry-accepted 'too-long-of-a-wait' between releases. If bands got a new CD out at least once a year I think fans would be more enthused and loyal. Trouble is, with all the crap bands masquerading as 'the best of the crop', the material likely would decline even further than it already is being forced to actually write decent stuff that often. Still, all in all, I do wait 4+ years for every new TCS release and I'm still on board ;-) I have to say 'Flowers' totally reinforced my appreciation for EATB. I think it's just a brilliant CD. But I'm even more excited to the new TCS disc once it finally comes out. - --Boz ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Sep 2002 12:25:13 -0700 From: "Ivan@indiebandomain.com" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Bunnymen World Radio... listen in...
