If Mac had started out that raw I'd agree. I rather enjoy his earlier voice for its ability to be crystal clear, air-brushed breathy, howling like a banshee -- his *range*. Hell if all it takes is smoking to be a better singer, by all means do it, but these folks must also have had a hell of a resistance to colds and coughs because smoking exacerbates them, and you certainly aren't going to sing well with a stuffed head hacking up phlegm every few minutes. I don't hear much change between Lennon's voice in the early 60s to the early 80s -- certainly age, but nothing like the rasp that's in Mac's voice now. Lennon probably did start smoking at like age ten or something though ;-) - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 15:47:50 +0100 From: "Martyn White" Subject: seven-seas-moderated OT Moby Just had a call from my cousin, asking if I want to go and see Moby play the Astoria in London on Friday night, as he's won a pair of tickets, courtesy of wunnerful radio one. I don't own any Moby records but don't mind the stuff I've heard on the radio etc. Anyone on the list seen him live, and can recommend I go? Cheers Martyn Top Tip :If a small child is choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a jug of boiling water down its throat and hey presto! The blockage is almost instantly removed. ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 08:13:42 -0700 (PDT) From: MarkE Moon Subject: seven-seas-moderated Passion Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas Bunnygeek prizes the passionate "faulty" note is always better than > the performed-by-numbers "right" note. I saw him 2 or 3 years ago as part of a local radio Christmas concert and he was really good. Seems to be very sincere and he has a great band backing him up.
