Ya think? IMHO the fags are giving his voice this really cool depth It's not quite Tom Wait (THANK GOD) and its not quite Dylan (But one can hope) it's a real nice just enough whiskey and just short of one too many packs kind of thing..... I think I dig it cause it's the sound I'm going for when I'm...um... that age..... n8 ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 12:32:16 +0100 From: "Noose Boy" Subject: seven-seas-moderated RE: seven-seas Bunnygeek prizes Interesting about what you say about the fags. I met an opera singer one time at a party and he was chain smoking, so I asked if it didn't hinder his singing abilities but his response was NO, quite the opposite, he said smoking made him sound better and that quite of lot of singers smoked. Booze on the other had he suggested caused too much dehydration. - -----Original Message----- From: Amy Moseley Rupp I received my _LIL_ DVD and Bunnygeek lanyard pass a couple of days ago... I will say that having the surroung sound and the visuals makes the performance much more powerful than the CD soundtrack would seem to indicate... though darn it, Mac, cut back on the fags because they are ruining your voice! ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 12:34:08 +0100 From: "Noose Boy" Subject: seven-seas-moderated Straw : Sailing off the end of the World Does anybody have a copy of this song, can't seem to find any source for it? And how many years will that be? ;-) What it means, though, is not being able to have the same vocal range, and not being able to do some of the older stuff. The Bunnymen quite literally are banking on their older stuff. Some of it can handle the updated voice, but some of it can't, and that's limiting the setlists quite a bit IMHO. - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 08:13:07 -0500 (CDT) From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas Bunnygeek prizes > Interesting about what you say about the fags. That's why any serious classical singer is always carting round a big honking bottle of Evian. Some people can get by with less structural damage than others. And I doubt that opera singer was a lyric tenor. The sound used for opera is quite different than for pop/rock. Of course that brings up an interesting question... if EATB was set to classical or opera music, as some of the older artists have been, what would they do? I'm thinking of "Rescue" done as a dramatic solo ;-) - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Sep 2002 09:33:51 -0400 From: "Chris Adams" Subject: seven-seas-moderated RE: seven-seas Bunnygeek prizes John Lennon said more or less the same thing; that he acheived that rawness that made him one of the great rock voices because he smoked. Once again proving that rock and roll is quite often--and I'd say more often than not--better when its NOT "musical" or technically perfect or proficient. Which is what musicologists and Berkelee types never seem to be able to grasp--that the passionate "faulty" note is always better than the performed-by-numbers "right" note. Look at the Velvets--technically, their records are awful--poorly produced, bum notes all over the place, miscues, you name it--and even their worst tracks are light years better than anything ELP, Genesis, Yes, ever released. Some might argue that that's just a matter of taste. And it is. GOOD taste. - --Chris A. PS: I'd recommend smoking AND drinking, but that's just me.
