It'll have to do. Didn't Morrissey just play > two nights in a row at some dive in El Paso (and played the exact same > set both times)? :-) Yes, I'd heard Morrissey was going to play El Paso, but that's actually a fair hike... El Paso is closer to Los Angeles than it is to Houston! Would've gone to the Mozzer shows if I could have been more certain he'd show.... he cancelled at the last minute last time I tried to see him. - --Amy ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2002 09:40:30 -0500 (CDT) From: somethinstrange@webtv.net Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas-digest V1 #136 yes we lately have been passed on, though we always pack the venues. however, THE MISSION UK _are_ coming to TX! el paso, san antonio and wayne's doing an "unannounced" acoustic gig in houston! now... the bunnies are LONG overdue for a show here. From: amyr@jump.net (Amy Moseley Rupp) You're in Houston, I'm in Austin.... I did mean what I said about wanting to hear "Ocean Rain" live. From watching the past few English bands that have toured the US, I have gathered that they tend to play the same cities... the two coasts, and two or three cities in between, notably in Ohio, and then Chicago or Denver -- maybe Phoenix. Closest show is usually Denver. I do wish these bands would play either Dallas *or* Houston... there is a huge fan base in Texas for many of them. Who else would you like to see play here? As I've said, I'd like Muse... ====================================== Choices! mailto:majordomo@smoe.org Subscribe/unsubscribe Seven-seas Seven-seas-moderated Both available in digest form. ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2002 07:53:24 -0700 From: "Ivan Smith" Subject: seven-seas-moderated NEWS - 6 September 2002 - - Ian McCulloch to step into the studio this month - - Peter Wilkinson, Bunnymen bassist, to release solo album Ian McCulloch will begin the recording of his third solo album - his first for Cooking Vinyl Records - 16 September 2002. Doghouse Studios, in Henley-On-Thames will host McCulloch & co. for 5 weeks of recording and mixing. Cenzo Townsend will engineer and mix the album. He's previously worked with McCulloch on the 1995 Electrafixion album, "Burned" and Echo and the Bunnymen's 1997 UK top-ten album, "Evergreen". McCulloch has assembled a band of Liverpool-based musicians for the session: Ian McCulloch : vocals, rhythm guitar Peter Wilkinson : bass Simon Finley : drums Ceri James : keyboards Pete Byrne : guitars - ----- 'HUXLEY PIG- PART 1' By AVIATOR- THE DEBUT ALBUM BY PETER WILKINSON FROM CAST. RELEASE DATE - 1st OCTOBER 2002 Since the demise of the multi-platinum selling band Cast, Peter Wilkinson, in between playing bass with Echo and the Bunnymen, has gathered together a collection of songs which are released here on his debut album- 'Huxley Pig - Part 1'. He weaves some ethereal magic on tracks such as the melodic 'Shoot The Crow' and the stunning 'I fall Asleep', whilst he offers the rock 'n' roll circus that is Dancing Bear. 'Huxley pig- part 1' has it's own unique sound which has been found by Pete's desire to experiment. This album rivals, if not surpasses some of the great band releases that Peter has played on including all Cast releases and the classic album by Shack,' Water Pistol'. His musical otherworldliness has been captured by producer Paul Hemming and features Keith O'Neill (his former partner in Cast) on drums. This should appeal to former Cast fans who eagerly await its realease, as well as gathering new fans all of its own. Another great release on the Viper Label. TRACKLISTING : 1) Pinhole 2) Huxley Pig 3) Shoot The Crow 4) Dancing Bear 5) Burning Car 6) False Host 7) Transporter 8) I Fall Asleep 9) Don't Trust You Man 10) Cradle Song - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Personally, I think it's good news all around - Burned & Evergreen, technically speaking, have a lot more "punch" than the three albums that have followed, and I'm glad to see Ian returning to the "scene of the crime", recording at the Doghouse with Cenzo Townsend at the mixing desk. Also good to see some familiar faces in the studio line-up: Ceri, Peter Wilkinson & Pete Byrne. I'd made comment in December that the Bunnymen line-up with Ceri on keys & Peter on bass was the most energetic that I'd seen in a long time. And, as Brazil can attest to, Pete Byrne, though a surprise name in the mix to some of us, has got 'chops' on the guitar. He accompanied Mac on last fall's promo tour, playing guitar on the radio & MTV - Brazil appearances. Pete's one of those guitarists who must have a couple extra fingers - he's able to play rhythm and lead parts at the same time... Also, you may have noticed that the album's to be released on Cooking Vinyl. I think this move was the only way that the album was gonna see the light of day, as Jeepster seem to have put all their eggs into the Belle & Sebastian basket. I think we can all expect to see a solid rocking, 'pop' album, from Ian, which will allow for the Bunnymen to continue down the 'cult band' road, venturing further into the realm of Will's experimental weirdness.
