I completely agree with your assessment of _Reckless_ -- there were several major hits from that album, including Summer of 69, Run To You, Heaven, and Somebody. My rock band covered Run To You -- easy enough but interesting bass line. Summer of 69 was the first arpeggiated song I learned on (regular) guitar -- it's dead easy, once you get the hang of it, but it was getting the hang of it that was so hard! Heaven was a power rock love ballad. I turned 18 in 1985 and also had such a good summer in '89 that I would sing Summer of 69 with those years instead of 69. The band in Summer of 69 broke up when one member quit and another got married... "Those were the *best* days of my life." I do love that song ;-) The one and only Bryan Adams live show I saw was in the Summer of '84 before _Reckless_ came out; and I don't recall him doing any of the material from it. I didn't listen very much though because he could NOT sing on pitch! But it was also the Astrodome, and like 120 F in there, and they were throwing bags of ice on the crowd and people were eating it off the turf where it fell! I remember hearing Bryan Adams and Corey Hart on the radio a lot when in Montreal in August of 1985. I think we stayed way the hell out Sherbrooke (I have the address somewhere) and didn't do much except the laundry and run around on the Metro. Peeved me no end how I could walk into a store, even on the Metro underground, and invariably be greeted in English instead of French -- they could tell just by your clothes and the way you looked that you weren't one of Les Habs! ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Nov 2002 12:35:12 -0800 (PST) From: Andrew Ironside Subject: seven-seas-moderated Re: seven-seas Re: Corey Hart (part 1) > I completely agree with your assessment of > _Reckless_ -- > there were several major hits from that album, > including > Summer of 69, Run To You, Heaven, and Somebody. People say my french sounds like the stuff from France, which may have something to do with learning through Indochine lyrics. You like them? One of the few decent French Alt rock bands. Bryan Adams is coming here in December, but it will be in the cavernous Bell Centre, which I don't dig. Playing summer of 69 is a bit like playing Basketcase with all that palm muting, I think you need a capo to play Run to you. Obscure fact: Michael J.Fox went to high school with Bryan in B.C. Obscure fact #2 my Dad knew Corey's big brother Steve, and said Corey was a little pest then. He also went to high school with Blue Rodeo's Greg Keilor. Being a lawyer he also did some work for Men w/o Hats in the 80's when lead singer Ivan was caught with the meat in his mouth so to speak! You ever see their video for where do the boys go? There is a Bonhomme(snowman) dancing around this huge Orange shaped diner, It's called the Julep, those are my stomping grounds in the summer. The summer of 89 was pretty shitty for me, all I remember hearing was NKOTB, Richard Marx and stuff like KLF, I was unaware of Stone Roses + Pixies, much to my chagrin. Signed up for a Virgin Prunes mailing list today, have any of their weird records? They sure don't sound like U2! A lot of screaming and weird art shit. A bit like Sex Gang children but weirder. Greetings all. I have to shamefully bask in the little bit of reflected glory of having acquaintances that have had brushes with the (in)famous recently, which I just know you all want me to share with you all! Happened to have two friends that have been near to greatness of late: A friend came over last weekend with her boyfriend, who I'd only met once before, so didn't know very well. He is a wildlife photographer/cinematographer, who works mainly for the BBC wildlife unit based in Bristol(He's also a mad Depeche Mode fan, but hey, I'll talk to anyone-apologies to Baldy Man!) Turns out he knows ex fifth Bunnymen Jake Brockman quite well, as Jake works as a sound recordist now. He also knows Bill Butt, and his wife Francis, who he says are lovely people. Which is nice! Then this evening I was chatting to my very good friend, and fellow Bunnyfan, Mark(a forester).Turns out he was doing a bit of tree clearance for one Colin Greenwood (no pun intended!) of Radiohead last Friday, at his house in Nuneham Courtney, just outside Oxford. Also turned out to be a nice bloke, although Mark blew the hanging with the stars bit big time. Colin went out 'to work' whilst they were working, and Mark didn't see him come back. They finished the job at lunchtime, and Mark's collegue asked if he wanted a cuppa. Mark declined the offer, as he assumed he meant from his flask, so he made his excuses and went to leave. As he was going, he saw the friend disappear into Colin's house (The Old Rectory), and noticed Colin's Lexus. He later found out that the offer of a cuppa was from Colin, who proceeded to give Mark's mate lunch! Poor Mark missed out on a bit of hobnobbing with a megastar! Still, as Mark said to me after telling the tale, 'it's not like he's Will, is it?'!!! I shall return to my slumber now, you'll be pleased to hear. Cheers Martyn A Universal Truth: One of the most awkward things that can happen in a pub is when your pint-to-toilet cycle gets synchronised with a complete stranger. ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ End of seven-seas-moderated-digest V1 #46 *****************************************
