So whattya all think, regarding the news that Chris & Jonny Coldplay will be on Mac's solo, and that the Bunnymen are getting a lot pf press about the Q award? Will this help sales of the solo album? Will Ian & The Buns re-gain the interest of major labels? Do you think Ian will embark on a massive solo tour, or do you think the Bunnymen will dive right back into the studio and record another album? Evidently, Les wasn't able to make it round to Will's last week to do his basslines on the Glide album. In the interim the man who was to work mixing-board magic on the project was tragically taken away from us. Dave Buchanan seems to have lent a hand to some hallmark alternative rock acts - noteably, Belly, The Boo Radleys, Electrafixion, Hurricane #1, New Model Army, Pale Saints, Space, Super Furry Animals, Teenage Fanclub. This was to be the Glide "rock" album. Do you think the absence of Dave at the mixing desk will diminish the punch of this recording? How will the absence of such a talented audio guru effect the sound of indie rock? Ian McNabb's agreed to do a guest-DJ spin on Bunnymen World Radio, once he's wrapped up his tour. Will's DJ set (on CD) is apparently in the post to me as we speak. What other North/Northwest rock luminaries should I coerce into contributing? Do you just wanna hear what songs they pick, or would you like to hear gossip and anecdotes about the artists they choose? What else would you like to hear from them? - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). I guess it's sorta like "Silver" ... the > strings are like _Ocean Rain_. Can't find my copy to hand to listen to but, from memory, it's the strings AND the pounding bassline. This is what Stephen Street has to say : "Everyday Is Like Sunday was one of the oldest pieces of music I brought to Morrissey. With that song, I was thinking along the lines of Echo & The Bunnymen. But, as soon as Morrissey put the vocal on, it became something different altogether. Vini (Durritti Column's Vini Reilly) turned his nose up at the chord sequence on that song. He also refused to play the guitar solo on Suedehead. I had to do it myself." - -- Barry - -- Barry Whiting barry@urquell.freeserve.co.uk ====================================== The Official Seven-Seas Web Page. www.bunnymenlist.com ====================================== ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Oct 2002 15:29:24 -0700 From: Charles Pham Subject: seven-seas-moderated OT: Haven / Division of Laura Lee caught these two bands last monday. I can not say enough about HAVEN. So amazing live. Their album "Between the Senses" is excellent. The US version of the record has a few extra tracks and has a different sequence than the UK version. Worth the $10 at Virgin. Division of Laura Lee are pretty solid also, they opened the show. I'd say they're a mix of T(I)NC and The Hives with a bit of the Strokes. and yes, DOLL is from Sweden. and no, they all don't wear similiar uniforms. The lead singer kinda looks like Shrek... go here for sound clips: www.haven-usa.com http://www.divisionoflauralee.com/ Charles Pham Producer E! Been thinking about this... I haven't seen the "Ocean Rain" performance from the Q Awards, but most have described it as 'uninspiring'. I'm pretty convinced it was an orchestrated "fuck you" to Q Magazine facts: 1. Ian was out all night the evening before, waking up a half hour before he had to leave for the awards. 2. He didn't pay a whole lot of attention to his looks, wearing his coat-du-jour, that tan safari number, a pair of old coruroys, and in his words "probably yesterday's socks" 3. In Mac's words, the Bunnymen were "fighting a battle to try and just do it the way we do it, and not kowtow to record companies or the mass market, you know". and the most telling were close the first words out of his mouth to Q's interviewers, after receiving their award: 4. "It's great to have, especially for a band that's, I think, generally only ever gotten three stars in Q" - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
