Hey all- Alright, let's smoke out the rumor-monger among us. :) Apparently, Rumours ain't just an album by Fleetwood Mac! Look at all these rumors I can't take it no mo'... :) Actually, I was completely surprised by the assertion that all we discuss are rumors. I think that would have been true back in the days of Messner, but now? I just don't get it. Perhaps the u-sub request was delayed a few years...? :) Ben Live: Yep. I saw 'im. In Boston a few weeks back. I went with 2 friends - -- both were BeFeF fans, but neither had gotten the album yet (and neither of them had ever seen BFF live!), so it was fun for me to try to explain songs just before they started in... Here's my take on it. (Oooh Oooh Oooh! This could be rumor right here! "I got yer hidden track right here..." Maybe *I'M* the rumor-monger!!!) So Ben doesn't chat much between songs anymore. He does the whole story of Hiro right before that song, but other than that, there was very little talk. Well, there was one very funny bit just before RTS about Boston's alternative radio thinking that RTS was "too mature to get airtime" before thanking all of us "old folks" for coming to the show. It was quite amusing. And there was a bit of an improv piece after a fan apparently shouted "Shut up and play!" The piece went a little something like... "Shut up and play... We payed good money to be here so why don't you shut up and fucking play You get paid good money to play Not a lot of money... But it's enough So why don't you shut up and fucking play" Very funny moment. And when he took of his sweatshirt, he did say something about now looking like a complete redneck* (he was wearing a white t-shirt and a baseball cap (I think it had some sort of peace thing on it). But I thought it a bit odd that he didn't talk more. Mainly because there seemed to be a few times that he'd look like he was going to say something, but then he'd just look down and start a song. My friend Chris actually said -- "Ummm, he looks a bit like he's trying to remember which song to do next..." And I commented that he looked like he was a bit ADD... Ben has attention deficity disorder!!! So anyway, I thought that that was interesting. It was also a bit odd to hear just the piano on some of the BFF songs (Acoustic Ben, if you will.). But I kinda liked it. It made you realize what a virtuoso Ben really is (and has always been...). The show was strange in that a LOT of the crowd hadn't yet heard the album (but of course, the show was sold out). So it was a fairly subdued crowd (at least where I was standing). People were REALLY into the show, they just weren't shouting the lyrics (at least not until the BFF portion of the show). Then it was odd to have the audience singing the Darren/Robert parts. It sounded pretty kicking, actually. And was SO much fun! Show highlights (for me): Annie Waits Zak & Sara Hiro's Song (It. Just. Kicks. Ass. Live!) Make Me Mommy (Ditto above. Only SO much more!!!)** Song for the Dumped (replete with the piano stool throw and all) Anyway -- Chris, Kim and I all had an absolute blast. And strangely enough, I recently found out that a potential blind date was also at the show, which prompted him to buy tickets to the Suzanne Vega/Patty Larkin/Jonatha Brooke show this Friday... so I may have actually gotten a date out of going to see Ben. :) And I guess that is all for now... Hope all is well with all of you, - -Anne * Sadly, he *did* look like a redneck. *grin* ** I've noticed that the studio version of Make Me Mommy sounds almost like the Violent Femmes -- or at least it has that flavor of early 80's punk. Check it out if you can. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V4 #35 ********************************
