Depressing songs? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2001 05:20:00 EDT From: FieryLox@aol.com Subject: oh, ben who? hi rockford people. i think i've posted to this list like, three times in my life. but i an in a bit of a quandary. i bought some tickets to a TOOL show today online at ticketbastard.com...and i get to the final screen before i realize that they are for THE WRONG SHOW! argh. so now i have two tool tickets to the show in raleigh that i need to get off my hands. if you or anyone you know would like to see tool (and i just saw them in june, and it was the best concert i've EVER seen, including any and all bff shows...well, except maybe one) in raleigh, please email me! i'm selling the tickets for exactly face value, minus the ticketmaster charges and whatnot. in other news: you may remember me preaching about jump, little children here a few years ago...well, they've been through some messy, sad legal battles with their label--but are finally going to release the album they completed in march. it's called "VERTIGO" and it's coming out on SEPTEMBER 25. they have a bunch of southeastern tour dates announced, but nothing outside of the southeast yet. the album is beautiful...the songs are so much more mature and fully-fleshed out than the shit on magazine. i highly recommend it to any fan of good, good music. phew! - --sara http://sarax.nodata.org ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2001 10:18:20 -0400 From: "Anne Sawyer" Subject: Depressing songs? Hey all... Hmmmm. Losing Lisa has depressing lyrics. Yes. Definitely. Sure. Absolutely. But the beat is still one that makes me want to dance and skip around my apartment. Sports & Wine isn't the kindest of songs, but that doesn't make me want to move around any less. Underground is tongue in cheek, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to mosh when I hear it. Y'see, for me, it's the dichotomy that makes it kick ass. As to being depressed... as a girl I coached in field hockey put it "You're 31, single and unemployed. Your Mom isn't proud of you!" So let's not talk about depression... :) Strangely, though... the beautiful way that very depressing subjects are handled by Ben is the very reason why his songs kick ass when I am most down. For example, there were many, many, many times that I played BFF when I was going through my divorce. I dunno. I'm not sure I can explain it. But because the songs are quirky and beautiful and touching... they tend to uplift me rather than bring me down. And I disagree that Rockin' is the only song that isn't depressing... The Luckiest is uplifting if you look at it the right way. :) Hope all is well with all of you! - -Anne "I just want to walk away...
