If any of you are living out East, I *highly* recommend these upcoming shows from the Mason Jennings Band: Tuesday, July 11 at Fado in Cleveland 1058 Old River Road 216.771.0066 9:30 to 11:30 Wednesday, July 12 at The Lakeside Lounge in New York City 162 Avenue B 212.529.8463 9:30 to 10:15 Thursday, July 13 at The Mercury Lounge in New York City 217 E. Houston 212.260.1214 8:30 to 9:15 Friday, July 14 at The Iota in Washington D.C. 2832 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA 703.522.8340 9:00 to 10:00 Thanks, Tom P.S. Anyone else in love with the new Billy Bragg and Wilco album? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Jul 2000 15:40:30 -0400 From: Dan Cohen Subject: Re: out East? Erf. I can't make any of those, but I will throw in these Josh Rouse tourdates for anyone in the Midwest: Tuesday 07/11 Indianapolis, IN The Vogue Wednesday 07/12 Fort Wayne, IN Pierre's Friday 07/14 Chicago, IL Schuba's Thursday 07/20 Birmingham, AL The Nick Call club for details on any of those shows. I *think* they're all headlining dates; if you didn't catch Josh Rouse opening on one of the college BFF shows this spring or on the Guster tour, he's a mellow, very talented lyricist and songwriter, playing subdued alt-country-ish music with a five-piece band. Surprisingly great show, and a hell of a nice guy to boot. As for Billy Bragg/Wilco, I most certainly am. There are a lot of new-ish albums that have been occupying my time lately, but Mermaid Ave. II is one of the best. 2000 has been an incredible year for new music so far, and I can only cross my fingers and hope that the new Radiohead CD, likely the crown jewel in all of this, is as good as I expect it to be. October 3, the rumored release date, isn't far off at all :) Lately, I've been listening to the following: Jurassic 5, "Quality Control" Trembling Blue Stars, "Broken By Whispers" Hamell On Trial, "Choochtown" Sunny Day Real Estate, "Rising Tide" Miles Davis/John Coltrane, "Complete Columbia Recordings" As an aside, the Davis/Coltrane box set, a stunning, six-disc monstrosity of the greatest jazz duo in history, is well worth the $100 they want for it; at nearly six and a half hours of solid music, it cannot be reviewed like any other album. Even if you're not a jazz fan, get it. If only to see how the greatest creative minds in the history of a genre worked, it's a steal. What else? If you didn't catch it on the MA the other day, TONIGHT's Ben Folds Five show from Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will be netcast live via the House of Blues network; the URL for this little shindig is http://www.summerfest.com/promotions/hob/. This, of course, in addition to the Digital Club Network broadcast of the big Chapel Hill show on the 24th, which I'm sure we all know about. Speaking of which, who will I be seeing there? :) - -Dan Thomas Kluis wrote: > > If any of you are living out East, I *highly* recommend these upcoming shows > from the Mason Jennings Band: > > Tuesday, July 11 at Fado in Cleveland > 1058 Old River Road 216.771.0066 > 9:30 to 11:30 > > Wednesday, July 12 at The Lakeside Lounge in New York City > 162 Avenue B 212.529.8463 > 9:30 to 10:15 > > Thursday, July 13 at The Mercury Lounge in New York City > 217 E.
