Didn't Ben move to Australia upon marriage to Frally? And didn't Robert and Darren stay here ("here" meaning Stateside)? Wonder how they've worked out rehearsal/recording logistics. I want to comment on M's post. I have to agree. They will be in Japan, then South Korea, then in October in Brazil and Sao Paulo. In between, they are supposed to make some stops in the US (from what Matty says) AND of course, lay down some new tracks for a new CD. If this isn't fulfilling contract obligations then I would think that this isn't the most productive way to stay focused on producing a great new CD. In addition, as a man with children myself (but not TWINS!), I would think Ben would want to be around the wife and kids. But after new CD, they hit the road to promote it, no? The life of a 30-something rockstar....I guess I prefer to sit in my Magical Armchair and make comments about things I know nothing about. Of course I am not being critical of anybody personally. I am being selfish because I want the new CD to have the energy of S/T.....no more redneck lullabies. Anybody else on the list heard of Elliott Murphy?? I bought a CD of his off of MP3.com. I would recommend it. - - -Erik - ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V3 #45 ******************************** ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jun 2000 10:03:50 -0700 (PDT) From: ShortSkirt Spice Subject: Re: I will thread the needle. Apparently the guys meet up in Chapel Hill and record. I know people who have like half of the new album already, even though I had heard they wouldn't be recording with Mitch Easter until July. But it makes sense that they're going back to finish recording in the Chapel Hill area in July if they're playing a show there. Guess that even with Ben in Oz and Darren in NYC, Chapel Hill is still home base. As for the Ben, wife, kids, and the road...he's gotta pay for those babies somehow. And they can't be too huge of a concern if Frally was willing to leave her 5 month old twins in Australia to follow the band around in the UK. Already sounds like these kids are going to be raised by a nanny, but I guess Frally's being smart. If she's on the road with Ben, it's harder for him to cheat on her. After all, he doesn't have the best track record. Live mp3s of the new songs are on Kyle's FTP site. Sounds like the boys are trying to go back to their roots, at least based on those few. Hi all - I do see a lot of truth in what Erik said. I do think Ben would want to be at home with his family, and because Rob and Darren are living in a different country (on very far away from Australia), I would imagine that would make coming up with new material for an album difficult - not to even mention touring to promote it. One of the reasons I was so happy to go see them on this last college tour was because I'm always fearing that each show I see (due to the fact that TUBORM didn't do well, and that Ben's moved to Adelaide) will be my very last. But I was very excited about what I saw at Colgate and Stanford. I like the new songs they played a lot - 2 of them I LOVE - and I'm getting my fix via the MP3's that were posted (I can't thank the person who did that enough!). The new songs have given me hope that they will make another awesome album together. I do think that Rob and Darren are having more of a contribution as two of the new songs were written and sung by Rob, and Ben said that Darren wrote "Amelia Bright". I see this as a good thing - I'm hoping that Rob and Darren are able to get the credit that they're due. I just wish Darren would sing the lead during songs that he's written! That's my take on this issue - Kristin ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V3 #46 ********************************
