Subject: Can I say again that I want Courtney's life? Hey all, what a pleasant surprise to come into work on a Saturday morning and have mail from y'all. I hate billable hour requirements. Anyway, that would be me who saw Guster w/ our FL last fall and tomorrow night again for the incredibly cheap price of $5 in my new hometown, Peoria, Il. Woohoo!! I bet there will be even less people tomorrow than there were in St. Louis last fall, which is fine w/ me so I can accost Adam. No real new concert news, however Nine Inch Nails in Chicago go on sale this pm. I love the new Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse, Folk Implosion and Pumpkins (of course). I almost saw Lou Barlow in Chicago a few weeks ago, but my friends backed out. My new (well, on-going really) thing is hip-hop, there is a pirate radio station that just popped up here a few months ago, and there is nothing like blaring that stuff on a nice spring day w/ the windows down and sunroof open. D'Angelo is hot!! Okay back to work. Peace all, T ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 11:29:01 PST From: "Elisabeth Donnelly" Subject: Oooh, D'Angelo Big word on D'Angelo, dear. I really appreciate him. He's so willing to happy and naked for us all. He wants us to be happy and naked as well, I know it. I've been listening to D'Angelo a lot lately, and I'm convinced he's this rambling, great version of Marvin Gaye. He by far has the funk. He's playing the wang center with Mos Def this sunday, and I oh so much want to go (and when I hear 'untitled' i know D'Angelo wants me to go, as well!) but tickets run 35-75. And of course i'd want to go with my girls, or my mom, or perhaps the boy. Ah well. I really want to see Mos Def as well. He's awesome and scarily multitalented. Speaking of good looking men, anyone like the Catherine Wheel? They're playing a show in Boston. I'm highly looking forward to it. Next week I'm going to see Boss Hog, and that show should be fun. How are they live? Anyone know? I saw Yo La Tengo a couple of weeks ago, and it was such a great show. I was in the front row, and I had a bit of a coughing fit, and Ira was like "oh, i think we killed that woman" it was a bit of fame. I enjoyed it. Lately, been listening to The Night-Morphine Finally rediscovered the song "Bad Reputation" by Freedy Johnston. Incredible. I'm reading A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, and it's really excellent. I would be so proud if the Shelia Divine got big. They're pretty good. Nice guys, as well. BFF- not hitting Boston, huh? Courtney, what's up with that tour thing? Could you explain clearly? And if Im in promos at the radio station, does that mean I can weasel free things? ~Elisabeth ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Mar 2000 15:19:17 -0500 From: john_oc@juno.com Subject: Re: The Rockford Files V3 #31 hey y'all. it's been a while since your favorite dissonant force, john boyer decided to post, so i will jump in and kick it old school. first off, i'll jump in on josh rouse. get all three of his records. genius. dressed up like nebraska is one of the best songs ever, and the ep he did with kurt wagner from lambchop is great. the new one, home, takes the cake. i just saw him with cowboy junkies and despite a less than enthusiastic crowd, i loved his set. now, i must shout out for all my favorite records of the moment. dirty three - lowlands. genius. instrumental - guitar - violin - drums. so beautiful. you must get it. if you like the rachel's this is a must buy. eels - daisies of the galaxy. i echo the sentiments for this album, though i do get the feeling that the songs kind of mostly sound the same. in a good way, but i could see myself getting bored of it. seely - winter birds. this album is sooo good. it is everything that the new stereolab wanted to be. pedro the lion - winners never quit. again, pure genius. will i ever stop using that word? probably not. anyway, this album is the logical continuation of pedro the lion, though it is way too short! morphine - the night. it's a shame this is the last morphine album ever, because it is by far their most involved work. not necessarily my favorite morphine album, but defninately their most advanced. i would have loved to hear the next album in their progression as a band, because no doubt it would have been genius. the night could have been to morphine as perfect from now on is to built to spill (led to the genius known as keep it like a secret). dr. octagon - 3000 12". this hip-hop ep that i dug out of a bargain bin will prove to be one of the best finds of my lifetime. it's rare and it's genius. the song 3000 is crazy rockin'. kool keith - sex style. old school, pre-dr. octagon. purely showcases kool keith's wonderful lyrical stylings, all the while being as sexy as can be. turing machine - new machine for living. great lp that is everything good about math-rock. don cab wishes he could be like the turing machine who somehow are much more pure and less pretentious that all the crappy self indulgent math-rock out there. that's about it...though here are some other records i have been listening to...elliott smith - figure 8...yo la tengo - and then nothing turned itself inside out...modest mouse - building something out of nothing...the straight story - ost...micheal penn - mp4...deus - the ideal crash...antarctica - 81:03...the timeout drawer - record of small histories. oh well. i guess i'm out. saw karate last week. good show, though the played all new, unreleased songs so it was hard to get into. this band from cleveland called aloha(polyvinyl records) opened, and they were pretty amazing. guitar, bass, drums, xylophone/moog/vibes. seamless set with interesting song structures, though the transitions were all very similar and boring. basically, aloha is everything that the overrated joan of arc wishes they were. promise ring is tonight and i doubt i'll go. if i do go, it'll be to see the opener, pele. i'm just not in the mood for a show. plus, need to save my money for yo la tengo next week and pedro the lion the week after. i missed you all! john.bot v3.201 ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! DO IT. >pedro the lion - winners never quit. MEH! freaking Pedro the Lion is following me around like a bad goddamn penny. 3 weeks ago i went out on a date with this guy who i think only asked me out because i knew what emo was and who pedro were. i didn't have the heart to tell him that most emo makes me want to violently retch. and THEN our punk/alt director at KSCR keeps trying to foist them on me. and there have been other instances that i can't currently remember. but really; somebody make it stop. okay, i should go be a good and dilligent dj now. bye! ~Courtney == someone has her fingers in too many pies.... - - http://kscr.usc.edu - - http://www.soundbreak.com - - http://www.theshrubbery.com _____________________________________________________________ Email Powered by Everyone.net ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V3 #32 ********************************
