Happy Holidays from Central Ohio. I had a good holiday...spending it at home with my parents and my uncle. I made quite a killing too...new winter coat...new tascam four-track...graham swift's waterland...paul auster's timbuktu...stuart david's nalda said. The latter is the debut novel from Mr. David of Belle and Sebastian and Looper fame. I too saw some movies over the holiday break. First off Man on the Moon. Am I the only one who thinks this movie is grossly overrated? I am a fan of Andy Kaufman, but the problem is Jim Carrey is better at being Andy Kaufman than Andy was! As far as bio-pics go, I suppose this movie isn't bad at all...but to people who don't know Andy Kaufman, you aren't getting an accurate representation of his comedy in this movie. I for one think Andy is funny because he is such a sad and depressing character who will do anything for attention. I suppose that isn't funny, but it certainly makes him more endearing. Either way. Good, but not great. The Straight Story. The most recent movie by David Lynch. Pure genius. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a G Rated film this much since Mighty Ducks. Go see it. 80 year old man travells across Iowa in a 1966 John Deere riding lawnmower. Enough said. Being John Malkovich. I don't think I have to say too much about this movie on this enlightened list....so I won't. Except that I do think that this movie is genius. It's a good thing Charlie Kaufman(writer) knew John Malkovich, otherwise wouldn't it be weird having your agent hand you this script? Malkovich, malkovich, malkovich. MALKOVICH, malkovich, malkovich, MALKOVICH!!! MALKOVICH!!!! Princess Mononoke. Genius. I absolutely loved it. Replaces Ghost in the Shell as my favorite Anime film of all time. The action sequences are better than live-action. I think Minnie Driver and Billy Bob Thorton do execellent jobs as voices. Gillian Anderson, however, leaves much to be desired. There needs to be more movies about Nature Spirits and Wolf-girls. CD's that aren't leaving my stereo now that snow has fallen for good in Ohio. Cursive - Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes post hardcore genius. Antartica - 81:03 The Cure meets New Order with a dash of Kraftwerk. The Timeout Drawer - Record of Small Histories see Antarctica. Very Secretary - Standing in the Shade Orchestral Hayden/Elliott Smith/Damien Jurado. Karate - The Bed is the Ocean A record for all seasons and moods. Genius. Maybe my favorite album ever. Lullabye for the Working Class - Song Sparse, experimental alt.country Bright Eyes - Every Day and Every Night EP Singer reminds me of Tom Barman of Deus, Gordon Gano of Violent Femmes and Robert Smith all rolled into one. Quirky EP. There's so much more, but I won't bore you. rock. john.boyer.bot ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET!
