So it made me wonder how well TUBORM has sold in the U.S., cos I have no idea how many it has sold here, I only know that it did not even debut at number one, which I thought it might, like Taxiride's Imaginate did..... Sometimes I really think there is no justice in the world. okay - hows this for a semi-discussion topic: If you could plug just ONE band in the whole wide world, who would you give big props to? Then, if you could plug just one LOCAL band (from ... umm the State that you live in) who would that be? jodes ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Dec 1999 23:05:59 -0800 (PST) From: Courtney Knopf Subject: i got my imaginary friends Let's see.... my 21st birthday is rapidly approaching. sunday, yo. though the way things are shaping up, what with it being the end of the semester and all, there's a party every night this weekend. i fear i'll be too hungover to enjoy my sunday night out at the Derby. we'll see. i went to see Rhett Miller from the Old 97's play a solo show last saturday night and it was absolutely amazing. he played for 2 hours and 20 minutes and did lots of crazy covers of the pixies, the beatles, elvis costello and aztec camera. i *heart* rhett. so hmm... local bands i'd like to plug the rest of the world into? dude, local L.A. bands blow. case in point: buckcherry. and while jaques bratbaur may be one good lookin' man, i'm very much over the whole phantom planet thing. they get suckier and suckier every time i see them play. but since i claim both L.A. and Portland as homes, i'd say Pink Martini from Portland should be able to rock everyone's collective world's. they're fab - very cocktail/loungy/french. i love them. their percussionist used to drum for my 7th grade dance classes and the bass player used to be in my friend's band The Willies (R.I.P.). as far as plugging bands into the collective unconscious, i'd bet that Pulp and Belle & Sebastian being major stars would make this world a much more enjoyable place to live. my feet smell. ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "And move your boobies, I'm trying to imagine Matt Damon." _____________________________________________________________
