I love you guys! kick ass MN bands what the heck is going on here? Beck ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 23 Nov 1999 08:58:05 -0500 From: Eric Patton Subject: Oh rapturous day! The list stays open!!! Cool madness! Now I still have a place where people HAVE to listen to my madness! ;) Seriously, though, thanks oh FL, for keeping one of the happy things in my life going. I'll try to do my part to keep the list filled with posts, even if it is just my inane chatter. Speaking of which, here goes. Bentent: Just as a new thread to start, who do you think would be the perfect band for the Boys to duet/tour with? For a tour, I'd have to say go for the piano theme and have Tori, with someone like Kim Fox opening. For a duet, however, just because of the extreme difference in vocal styles with Tori, I'd have to say Bjork. A close second though would be Primus, just because of the wackiness that would most definitely ensue. ;) Update: Saturday night I attempted to attend my first Detroit rave. It was a really huge party with great DJs (Charles Feelgood, Terry Mullin, John Aquaviva, and Keith Kemp, for anyone into the scene.) and I had to go see it. So, I threw on my blue Kung Fu suit and my skull bandana, and rode out there with friends. We showed up an hour after the doors were supposed to open and the line was already going past the building of the venue. I knew then that we had a long wait ahead of us. So, me being the shy, quiet type of guy I am (yeah right!) I got up and started keeping the crowd entertained. My crowning achievement was when I got about 50 raver kids to sing "Tainted Love" with me. ;) The act ended up being a lot longer than I would have hoped, because the money-grubbing promoters had filled the place to capacity even before people with presale tickets had showed up and simply didn't tell anyone, but I still had fun even though I didn't get in. Best part is that the next day, people were discussing the party on an e-mail list, somewhat like this one, and a bunch of people said that the only good thing about being outside was "that black guy in the blue Kung Fu suit that was working the crowd." I even got a raver name out of the whole ordeal. I am now known as Father Bruce Lee in Detroit. I think I kinda like it. ;) New music: The name of this band escapes me right now, but my roommate introduced me to them last night. They're a German speed metal bandthat uses electric lutes and plays 14th century bardic songs as well as playing metal. It was just wierd enough to get my seal of approval. I'll check on a name later today and get back to you. ;) Quote of the day: Just because you can't see something, it doesn't mean you shouldn't believe in it. I can't see HALF the things I believe in. -Potato Bug, from the Mr. Potato Head Show ERIC ___________________________________________________________________________ "If a tree falls... I love you Erik! You don't know how happy I am to have my RF. I promise to post as much (well, almost as much) as I talk about the infamous Rockford Files and people I have met on it. Thank you! I finally met someone on the list at a BFF show. Hannah B. is pretty cool and I had a great time at the Mpls show. Maybe I'll get the change to meet some of the rest of you soon. Oh yeah, the MN bands. Firsty, I must profess my love for the genius of Stuart Davis. YOu can check out some of his MP3s at www.stuartdavis.com He's much better live than in the studio, but he's on the Peppermint label from Mpls. They've got a nice sampler for all of you in college radio land you can get. Also, the Mason Jennings Band is frankly breathtaking. They've got an amazing MP3 of one of their live classics, Rebecca Deville at www.masonjennings.com THe guy sounds like he's 50, really cool! Thanks for listening. I wasn't dressed up or anything. I was wearing my guster t-shirt, and no makeup (normally I don't wear that stuff). So anyway, I'm walking to my house from campus, and this van full of guys does a U turn in the street. They go through the grass of Tommy's Pizza. All this to gauck at me. They were like, "Hey girl, you're pretty." I don't know if they were making fun of me or what. Why is this "hit on Barbi quarter"? It's bad, you guys. I'm serious.
