I have read many E-mails about the situation and after reflection this is my conclusion: I, like many others, have been introduced to so many different artists that I want to give the list one more chance. Elliot Smith, Belle and Sabastian, Jude, Jump Little Children, etc. The list is long. I can't think of an artist someone on this list has suggested that has been a bad recommendation. So the list stays on. However, if there is anyone else who feels like Jessica Brandt does, E-mail me privately and I will remove you from the list. I have my own theory about Jessica and am willing to discuss it OFF LIST only. I have reviewed the post which started all this nonsense and see it no other way but as wrong. I agree that the list has always been a place to discuss opinions, but by saying, "who cares" about something seems to have a place OFF LIST. I want to keep this list open only if there were 10 people on it because the other 9 people might have an item to share which might add variety to my life. I am not trying to sound sappy, however, I have found a lot of solace in this list at times. I like to hear how other people are doing. I like to know that there are other types of lifestyles out there. I do not like to confine myself to one way of thinking. Overall, I think it helps us all to be more tolerant when we experience things in life. So that is my offer. If eveyone on the list wants off then I guess it is over. However, if we can come together one last time to keep hope alive, let's do it! by-the-by, I have never heard of emo-pop. I, like Anne, HAVE heard of Emo phillips, however, I only know an Elmo due to children considerations. And he is into Monster Rock, if you know what I'm sayin. As always, I welcome private E-mail to voice any concerns you may have. And one last note. Like I mentioned, the 3rd birthday of this list is only a few days away. If you goto the archive of this list you may be surprised at some of the discussions that took place. http://bfflyonz.tripod.com/archive.htm these are the first non-smoe http://www.smoe.org/lists/rockford-files/ these are smoe AND ONE MORE THING: Eric, plain and simple, you rock. And thank you to everyone (you know who you are) for your input into the situation. It was GREATLY appreciated. - -Erik Lyons eriklyons1@aol.com erik_lyons@hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Nov 1999 17:22:18 +1100 From: bliss@telstra.easymail.com.au Subject: Recommended Music I am hoping that this list continues too - most of you are a veritable fount of information musically, and have gotten me hooked on artists such as Rufus and Gomez - I would be bereft without your knowledge. Now, it is my turn to impart some musical goodness onto the hoardes - two aussie bands, one definitely on the rise and one that deserves to be. First band is called Augie March - consider Jeff Buckley's voice backed by I dont really know what!! They have two eps available from cdnow if you are keen - Waltz is the latest one and is dictated by delicate melodies and 'space' while Thanks for the Memes was recorded basically live and shows maybe a little more diversity, though it has been called 'wordy' by the uninformed. Second band is called Bluebottle Kiss - a three piece from Sydney Australia - have been around for ages, nice evocative lyrics and music, very emotional but highly excellent. Only one of their many recordings is available from cdnow, but there could be other places they are available from. They have a website at www.bluebottlekiss.com - check it out - it is done by Ben the bass player. Also - i write for an aus music zine - it is still in it's infancy, but check it out - all of us involved like it!! the addy is http://thelunalounge.cjb.net (yeah - self promotion is alive and kicking!!) the zine currently has stuff on it about the above bands along with some other stuff - we wanna go places!! enuff from me jodes ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Nov 1999 23:28:01 -0700 (MST) From: Stacy L Flatt Subject: Re: Recommended Music you are not the 1st to reccomend Augie March. Hey all, I am currently wholly in thrall with this new Fiona Album. Its lightyears beyond her first one; sultry (I had a typo before-slutly..heh heh) jazzy...its so good! Paper Bag; truly a song I can relate to at this moment...Anyone else have an opinion? And whilst the drunken college students rage at the night outside, I must attempt to go to bed. Or do homework. Im also looking forward to the new Beck album-"the good ship menage a trois!" Yeah! I have much to add, yet it is time to be silent. THe kids in the hall are touring america in early 2000. is it me, but do I not quite trust that? does it not seem possible? feasible? ~Elisabeth ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of The Rockford Files V2 #301 *********************************
