Glucklich zu sehen, je suis enchantée, happy to see you! Bleibe, reste, stay! Meine dammen und herren, mesdames et messieurs, ladies... (and gentlemen...) it's so lovely to see all your lovely faces poking out! Eric of Fashion Consciousness! Anne of Mouse-Eared Attentiveness! Erik of Stimulating Questions! Marcus of Teen Porn Mags! Me of Procrasty Nation! 'Minds me'a back in the day... Yes, American Beauty is amazing. Simply amazing. And I thought I had a bad crush on Mr. Spacey BEFORE! He's too fabulous for words. (Yet somehow he will never approach the level of *sigh* Mr. Jeremy Irons...) Ben Folds is clearly an/the instrumentalist of the year. I'm gonna get whacked for saying this, but band recognitions should have come before now. This has not been the most influential year the group as a whole has had on music. That was probably 1995 or 1997. There are other bands that are more important to musical life in 1999. Band importance may come and go, but talent is an ever-fixèd mark. Eric: Definitely choice (A). Black is still very hip right now. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for the next color, because soon everyone's gonna look like they shop at The Matrix and I gotta have some tangerine on hand. Having recently turned 20, I've decided this is going to be one hell of a great decade for me. In fact, they just keep getting better. The first was okay. The second was good. But I have a feeling that from here on out, it's one heartbreaking, wonderful experience learning about mankind to another. It's four a.m. and I have fantastic loads of work to do before 10. I think I'll take a nap. - -carrie "Oh, moon of Alabama! What really struck me was Your Most Valued Possession. Before, I'd always blown it off as just a bit of fluff to make the album cutesy. Last night I sat down and listened to it, and I don't know why, but it kind touched me. Possibly it was the highly altered sleep-depped state I was in, but let's not get into that. ;) The song makes a valid point, and one I've pointed out to some of the random hunchbrains I've encountered in my travels. If you don't exercise your mind, just get some time to sit back and think, you lose so much. That's one of the reasons I'm a Discordian: it makes me think for myself. Anyway, on less philosophical bent(ent), I'm kinda leaning towards the all black outfit, if just because I'm really loving these $20 shitkicker jungle boots I bought yesterday. Finally, a shoe that can take the punishement I give out on a regular basis and take it. Even if they do fall apart, it's just $20! ;) So, unless there's an overwhelming crowd surge otherwise, it looks like I'll be going Punk Goth to Columbus. Heh, that should be fun. ;) Hey, at least it's not the other Gothic trend that's been rearing it's ugly head around: Gravers. That's right, Gothic Ravers. That's a pleasant image for your minds to ponder. For the most part, I have to give them credit because they do it primarily to warp people's perceptions. ;) Anyway, that's enough stream of conciousness writing for one day. Thanks to Anne and Markus (and of course the big man FL) for mentioning me. Laters all. I am so excited. The woman at the box office said my seats were good, although they are not third row. They are in the orchestra section. I am soooo excited. I just started listening to Guster, and they are really good too. On the other hand, it sucks that BFF are only playing huge radio shows with a bunch of other bands in Boston. Maybe I'll go to the show at City Hall. That seems like a better line up. Well, that's about all for now. I hope you all have a nice weekend. - -shara ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Sep 1999 13:27:38 PDT From: "Courtney Knopf" Subject: I wear the same shoes as everyone "Random Hearts" is going to suck donkey. but I still have the uncontrollable urge to see it. apparently my descent into madness is complete. hello all! i've been mastering the art of lurking, mostly because i'm freakishly busy. CMJ was absolutely fabulous. as both Rey and Leigh can attest, I was a whirling dervish of activity. and my love for manhattan was rekindled despite that whole hurricane thing. alas, I missed Matty J. on more than one occasion. perhaps next year. I saw American Beauty about a month ago (maybe? as if i can keep track of days anymore) and i too must attest to what a phenomenal film it is. that Wes Bentley kid is going places. and Kevin Spacey was fabulous as always. Though i could have done without seeing Thora Birch's boobies. while i was at CMJ i got to see a screening of Fight Club, and i would like to be the first to say that it kicks 47 different kinds of ass. Edward Norton was amazing, and Brad Pitt was... brad pitt. it's SUPER violent though, and it'll piss a LOT of people off. but David Fincher really knows how to fuck with his audiences. stay tuned for a full review on the Shrubbery. I'm going to see Pink Martini tonight. yay! and i might catch Tori tomorrow at Irvine. but that depends on whether or not i can get in free. especially since if i bought a ticket it would pad alanis' wallet faster than Tori's. and the Manic Street Preachers and Gomez are both next week! woo-hoo. i *heart* Gomez. Ian Ball is indeed the most adorable thing on the planet. Liquid Skin should be wending its way into my mailbox today. and by the by, my radio show is back on the air for the fall. wednesdays 6-9pm PDT. http://kscr.usc.edu and i'm having issues with my courk@usc.edu address so send personal email to vegasbaby@hotmail.dom or the old stand-by courtney@theshrubbery.com rock on. ~Courtney The Sultraness of Swing "What, I can't have ONE mimosa with breakfast? Glad people are posting. I'll post as well. I went to my local ticketmaster outlet this evening to get tickets for the Pontiac MI show. I asked my boyfriend, if he'd consider going to the Columbus show the night before, as well, and make a short road trip out of it. He said YES! He actually was all for it! I'm so excited now! We have our tickets for both shows, and I can't wait. Of course, about 20 minutes after I got the tickets and the total high was wearing off, I remembered that I'm supposed to help my grandmother move the day of the Columbus show. And the show is about 4-5 hours from where I live. So I had to call my mom and break the news to her. Luckily, she's pissed at grandma for not packing, and understood that we'd be limited in the time my boyfriend and I will be able to spend moving boxes. Phew! I'll be at the Columbus show, looking pretty shabby after getting up very early and moving grandma all day and then the long car ride, but I WILL be there! Eric - let me know what outfit you decide on, so Ed and I can find you in the crowd at the Columbus show. Haven't seen you around town lately - it would be great to meet up with you at the Columbus show! Yes, I'm still with the same guy we went to the Grand Rapids show with, and he's still a big fan of the band. Markus - I've been a huge fan of Geddy Lee since I was in Jr. High and Signals was the latest album from Rush. But your "chicken-embryo impersonator" description of him cracked me up! I was tickled pink when he was mentioned in the liner notes of TUBORM, so glad that my favorite band loves Geddy as much as I still do. Erik - Should I buy the Playboy issue just to vote? I can always give the issue to Ed after I vote, as he won't mind, to say the least. That's it. I'm going to see two more shows! Later - Kristin "I can't dance to that kind of music.
