I think I'm going to go to this show (I think it's in Charlotte) with them and Cake...the only think that's questionable about the whole ordeal is that BUSH is opening. Blah. I just saw them play at Mergefest here and wasn't really in a state to decide if they were great....thought they were good live though. Some more local yokels to check out I suppose... Anyway, just thought I'd pop out of the woodwork to make a few miniscule comments. So now Train is all big and popular and the "next big thing" How odd. I will be able to say I saw them 2 times, when Jude opened for them, and I was there to see Jude. Like, I got to meet them, and I didn't even care. Like the best thing I had to say about them was about how nice they were, how great their stage banter was, and that thaey covered Brad And Suzy. I'll be able to say that all their early reviews sucked, none of the critics liked them early on. And now their video is being played on tv. And now I hear this song, and I don't think about Train, or their music, or how it affected my life, or how great the concert was. I just think about hanging out with Ginger, laughing at the simplicity in Trains music, talking to Willaim about how they are nice guys, sitting in the parkinglot talking to woody about rockabilly, giving Adam the name of Indie Boy, annoying Kevin with all my inside jokes about Train. As much as I don't like that band, Jude and Train was the soundtrack for my vacation. I've been gone less than a month, but I still miss everyone and everything so much. Its weird how mucis can do that, bring back a flood of memoires and make them as vivid as if it was 5 minutes ago. And I am shameless in my nonbentent. stacy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Aug 1999 18:26:53 -0400 From: "Leigh 13" Subject: Darren Jessee - New York Nights (my apologies if you read this in multiple places) What a week! I got my game on with the crew and we went to see both of Darren's solo shows in New York City. On Tuesday night at the Knitting Factory I showed up with Dan C. and Kelly...from there, we met up with some of our other friends outside. While waiting to head inside the club, I met Josh and Sophia, who I had first met after the Central Park show in June (that whole banana thing.) It's always nice to meet cool fans to share a great evening with. The Knitting Factory was a really nice, small venue, with a well-stocked bar and tables right up in front of the stage. About ten of us camped out in the first row, and it looked like there were only about five other fans toward the back. We were joined by Al Wolmark and Caleb Southern, and some more of Darren's friends. It was wonderfully intimate setting, the sound was great, and it was Darren's first live solo performance! Darren sounded just amazing...though he seemed a bit nervous, his voice was perfect. I have always loved his songwriting--BFF tunes like Magic, Mitchell Lane, and Leather Jackets have always been some of my favorites. His new songs show more of his skills, stripped down to just Darren and an acoustic guitar. There were lots of fun times that night, like when he accidentally disconnected his guitar cable and when I asked him to disconnect that buzzing snare drum. :-) When he finished up, we got him to return to the stage to play Leather Jacket for us--it was a perfect end to a great set. Afterwards we all hung out at the bar to close out the evening. Thursday night at CB's Gallery, Rachel, Jody, and Kate showed up but I think Lisa ditched us for the Jude show! The crowd was much bigger this time, and unfortunately there were a few loudmouths in the back who talked through most of the show. Darren sounded a little more sure of himself though, and he played a new song called 'Limitations' that he said he just finished on the way to the club! All in all, between seeing the drummer for our favorite band up in front of the microphone in a small setting was a great experience. Being with great friends in the underground scene of the world's best city just made it ideal! Shout outs to Dan D., Brett, Kelly, Dan C., Rey, Lisa, Rachel, Jody, Kate, Josh, Sophia, Daniela, Melissa, and anyone else I may have forgotten! That was in honor of Anne. I don't know you, but I honor you none the less. Well, I am emailing ya'll because I want to. I have been waiting for a good excuse and, alas, I never came up with one. So, I am emailing everyone b/c I want to. I am incredibly and unnecessarily jealous of everyone who went to see Darren's solo show in Nueva York. I would have loved to have gone. Unfortunately my time/space portal has not been perfected yet. I'm working on it though. Which reminds me, I have made my first webpage. Crappy? yes. Plain? yes. Mine? yes. It is a small page dedicated to Mike Errico (who rocks by the way). I saw him at woodstock and made a small webpage based on him to celebrate his talents and my boredom. If you would like to see the page to bask in all my glory, it is here: http://members.aol.com/lifeisski/errico.html If you are actually curious about Mike Errico I put a clip from his new single on the site. I have absolutely no bentent so I am going to make up some. Robert Sledge is playing a small tea house in China on Sunday night. Okay, time for me to go bug my friends again. Enjoy the vast information available on the internet.
