The Bus Stops Here ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 03 Aug 1999 07:47:04 PDT From: "Elisabeth Donnelly" Subject: oh, the mango! Probably long if you're prone to scrolling, but does include a review of my new best friend, lyle lovett. I had an insight today, and its that every single person I know with a y chromosome is inexplicably weird, but whatever. But whose a happy bunky? Me. I had a mango sorbet with peaches and pineapple and strawberries, I bought the new book by the people behind BUST magazine, which ya'll should at least peruse. There is an article in there, "Ladies Night" by Wendy Shanker which is this brilliant pop culture-full, female David Sedaris like essay(similar to his story about being loved too much by men like Mike Tyson and Chartlon Heston) And ifyn ya dont believe me, Courtney can vouch. I saw Lyle Lovett at harborlights sat night, I had seen Moby at a club the night before, and I think I enjoyed lyle's show more (both excellent, comparing apples and oranges) what does it say that I enjoyed music with slightly drunken thirty year olds a helluva lot more than snotty hipster peers? Anyways, Lyle's show was populated with a lot of people who enjoy blues but have no beat. They would clap along, and they would be so off, and it would be kind of goofily endearing. Lyle's Large band is full of talented singers and musicians and they are uniformly great players. See him live./ Hes really fun, and a good song writer. Plus, he slept with Julia Roberts! Moby was also very good, he commanded the stage well, but I wish there was more room to dance, and the people were all slighty condescending while simultaneously worshipping moby like he's a god. I do not like Ani Difranco that much. She's a good lyricist, but does that mean Im not a grrrl? Im going to go see badlands tonight. Oh yeah, free classic movies! ~Elisabeth _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web.
