My Dad and I took a half day off work to go to the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, as we try to do every year - it's our one time a year to get some time together, just the two of us. We ended up wandering around campus and avoided most of the art, as it ended up (we're both U of M alumni). But we got to State Street, and started walking around the fair and I heard my name shouted. It was my good friend, Jennifer, who was sitting down and eating with her daughter. Proud to show off my Dad to her, I introduced them and Jennifer said "I was just telling my daughter that we may run into you out here, because I saw this guy over in that tent wearing a Ben Folds Five t-shirt and it reminded me that you were going to be out here!" So Jennifer and my Dad talk about my BFF obsession, and how they thought I'd get over it by now, but I haven't, and how it drives them both crazy! It cracked me up! Poor Jennifer isn't a fan, but listens to me kindly with any BFF stories I have and is able to spot a guy with a "Ben-like" quality as well as I can! Then my Dad and I got totally drenched in a downpour of rain, but we both remained cheerful. My Dad felt bad that he didn't buy me anything (gotta love that!), but I didn't mind. We had a very nice time together, and that was the reason we do this once-a-year outing. It's the only time I get to spend with my Dad one-on-one, even though I see him often. I just love my Daddy!
